well if they didnt like him they could have cut him and he would have carried no cap hit this year. but they didnt, instead they went out and bought weapons for him, and named him starter before the draft even started.

Because even those of us who know Mariota is not the answer also knows there was no better option for this season. Serious question, I don't remember and don't want to look it up... did they take Mariotas 5th year option before or after they signed Tannehill?

you have to do it a year in advance of the season... also even with picking it up, you can cut that person up to sometime in early spring of the 5th year (not sure of the exact date) and pay ZERO cap penalty. which they did not do.

If the coaches didn’t believe in him, they would have made this an open competition; they didn’t.
If players didn’t believe in him, then jump wouldn’t pick him over Brady; he did.

Nobody likes to take blame or call a #2 overall pick a “bust” of a pick. I’m not saying he’s a bust, but he’s only shown flashes. He’s been average and injured. He was getting his shot and a starter from the get this year without question. Doesn’t mean he isn’t on that hot seat though. Vrabel and Jrob didn’t pick him and they have Tannehill now if he doesn’t pan out this year. Writing is on the wall.

He was #30 in attempt distance and he only threw 25 passes over 16 Yards. Maybe that, combines with the number of sacks that he took while refusing to throw the ball, had something to do with that high %

Only 5 people left still fighting the losing battle, but they are the 5 die hards. Good thing is, they are also the type, once Mariota is gone they will be 100% onboard and supportive of the replacement. Then the rift created by Mariota will heal.
