His work ethic is not the problem. His issue is getting anxious and second guessing himself and what he's seeing. But that all kind of disappears when there is no room for error. With another starting QB behind him, they are hoping that he stays focused and has that mindset in practice and on every down

It's the same mindset as the Henry ordeal last year. He was benched for Flu, rumored to be on the trade block, and you suddenly see a different player. Some guys just don't have the alpha or chip on the shoulder mindset and have to be motivated in a different way.
Wow, what's up with you?

Yeah as really they are holding off to sign him to a long term deal. Knowing that it could be make or break for him. Just stay healthy.

No, that's not an assumption, it's an opinion based upon what YOU have said. Like when you said the Titans were going to draft Drew Lock in the 1st round, don't be surprised when you get called out on some of your ridiculous statements.

I have no idea what you're thinking about when you make posts like this, but I ASSUME it's probably something like this:

If the broncos offered Drew Lock for Marcus Mariota straight up today, I'd probably take it.

I gotta say that is a pretty bold stance. I don't think that would be a good trade, but I respect your opinion.

It's a simple matter of probability. How often does a QB just all of a sudden make a radical departure from their mean in year 5? I can't think of many.

It's more likely for a rookie to exceed expectation than for a 5th year guy to do so. And the rookie will be cheaper.

Obviously, I'd rather select our own guy next year if and when that becomes necessary.

Fair enough, but Mariota hasn't had a fair chance in 4 years, given the staff changes and all.

I think he's been set up for failure since he was drafted, and deserves this season to prove himself. I could be wrong, but I believe he will do it this year.

If not, next man up.

There is some truth to what you say. I have always been a believer in building the roster first, QB last. But when you're sitting with a #2 overall, you take a QB.

I think it's a coin flip that he shows me enough to be comfortable paying him big boy money next year.

I AM NOT cool with paying him for the kind of production we have seen so far. And I don't think JRob is either.

Yeah Vondy already mentioned that. But my point is the same. Most likely they would try to sign Byard to an extension (not a new contract) before his 'option' year which would be the year he'd be a RFA. This is because they don't want him to sniff free agency and already know they want to keep him.

With Conklin, they don't know yet.
And obviously with our qb

Sick and tired of this excuse

Rookies come in and outperform him

Guys get new coaches all the time and put perform him
Guys switch teams and out perform him.

There is truth to it. Our roster was straight trash when he got here. Whiz was a joke. Then he got munch and biscuits.

But yeah, at a certain point, you do it or you don't. We are at that point.

That’s tough because of what the “expectation”is for Mariota. We all expect at least a 2016 repeat.
Since he did that once, I’d have to say the likelihood he repeats 3200, 26/9 is higher than a complete unknown rookie.

To reaffirm this, QB taken #2 overall:
Sid Luckman*
Frank Dancewicz
Johny Raunch
YA Tittle*
John Brodie
Norman Snead
Roman Gabriel
Pete Bethard
Joe Namath*
Rick Norton
Archie Manning
Bert Jones
Rick mirer
Ryan leaf
Donovan Mcnabb
RG III
Mariota
Wentz
Trubisky

At least over the past few year, with the exception of #1 also being a QB, the #2 overall QB has been good. (RGIII until injury, Rick Mirer was bad)

2016 was good for a sophomore effort. It is not good enough to earn a new deal, imho.

Since SB is down, has anyone posted what PFT said about Mariota and qbs in contract years? If anyone hasn’t heard it here’s the link.

Sorry if someone posted it elsewhere

Was literally just going to post this! Guys, go to the 7:35 mark....Basically saying everything most of us already know and see. Refreshing to see others that agree.
