How many of those were check downs we’ll short of the sticks
No joke, No one can honestly disagree with this. I saw way too many posts in game threads and on the chat where Mariota always throws the ball in front of the sticks and hopes the receiver makes a play. It has been frustrating for his entire pro career.

So
The Titans players and leadership must all want to lose this season and in the future.

They've quietly built a solid franchise only to sabotage us with a weak QB. Just to spite us.

The new Mariota excuse... the entire franchise wants to lose this season and in the future....

Like I stated before, I'm expecting12 TD's. I think that is his ceiling this season, new OC again and to a certain extent a new offense. I'm not even going to mention injuries, fingers crossed he can stay healthy all season I am pulling for him.
But ...
Last season it was 11 TD's with injuries new OC and Offense. That's just isn't going to cut it in a passing league. These last 2 season's the offense has been one dimensional without the opposing defense making the offense one dimensional. Again , in a passing league this isn't going to cut it.
I just don't see MM8 playing lights out after having a new OC and Offense to learn yet again.

Marcus Mariota played through a ridiculous list of injuries in 2018. Should he get a pass?

The ones he played through... fragile, not so much. Snakebit, yeah but 40 some odd sacks doesn’t help. I do seem to remember another QB who could have been great had he not been getting killed week in week out, but their respective games are very different. I also don’t believe he’s had the opportunity to master a single offense yet (again 5 different OC’s). No matter who you are or where you stand on the subject this can’t be disputed nor can it be ignored. You might be right, I just think there’s more to what’s going on.

That actually proves he is fragile. He may be tough to play through injuries, but fragile to continue to stockpile injuries like canned goods in a bomb shelter.

2800 yds, 16 tds, 7 int.

He will have a decent year, just not good enough to be stupid enough to invest 100mil+ to resign him.

I really have no idea what to expect, at all...

Maybe the QB competition on the roster will force him to take more risks, and with the weapons we have now that could be a really good thing.
Maybe the opposite will happen and he ends the season as a backup QB.
Maybe he gets hurt again and misses time, and with a better backup there will be less of a need for him to play through injury.

Honestly, in any of those scenarios, we should be ok. We have a backup who can be really good at times, so here's to a positive outcome regardless of how we get there.

Wait till he throws 3 or 4 td’s in the first game and gets off to a good start . He’ll get 25 this year barring injury.

Mark it down. Mariota will win the MVP this year!!!

I'll settle for Top 12 statistical QB, and will still celebrate like he won the MVP....

Because if he can be that, we can be in competes with NE, KC for a Divisional spot..... and/or a deep run.. We have the defense, we just need offensive consistency and sustainability..

That's football. It's not just Mariota who does that on 3rd and long.

If you can get past the sticks, great. If not, the plan is to get what you can and try and flip the field.

You try and force the ball in a situation like that, it usually will end up in a sack from holding onto the ball too long or worse.

Truth. there's 3 phases of the game. You give your punter 5-8-10 more yards to coffin-pin them inside their 5.. And works out great for us, having a Pro Bowl punter

The facts don't agree with you. First, it's pretty hard to get a 119 qb rating just throwing check downs because that does weigh heavily TD/INT as well as ypa which would be much lower if he was primarily checking the ball down well short of the sticks.

Secondly, Mariota was 12th in fd% across the board (all throws, not just 3rd down) for all qb's with at least 300 attempts. He'd be bottom 5 - 10 if what you said was true.

Try again.

Well, the OL and Henry were bad most of the season so we had no running game most of the time and that's not really on Mariota. Secondly, with Walker down, he had 1 real weapon and CD by himself isn't enough of a deterrence to 8 guys in the box.

While you're right we will have a new playcaller, the system is supposed to stay the same so no new learning for Mariota for once. We have upgraded the OL and Henry ran like a BEAST down the stretch. That SHOULD force defenses to try and load the box. But with a better ol to protect and Walker coming back, CD and 2 MORE good wr's...we should be able to make teams pay for loading the box.

Not only should we not be one dimensional, but we should stop any team from trying to make us so. I think many players beyond Mariota are fighting for their jobs this season.

Agree, you don't replace OL if you happy with them, and I'm sure it has alot to do with money but not picking up Conklin's 5th year is a sign he's fighting for his job too.

Let’s see what you look like after more than 40 sacks... IF it was an average number of sacks I could see fragile, this is abnormally high and you have to accept freak injuries like the broken leg as well as the nerve injury, those just aren’t common injuries.

The sacks arent an excuse, just more condemnation. Maybe he should try something like...throwing the ball away, or moving away from the pressure instead of running into it.

I don't agree with it necessarily being a sign. If a player is a long term player, do teams normally pick up the 5th year option or do they just negotiate a longterm contract? I think he is fighting for value, not so much his job. The 5th year option is valued higher than he is right now.
