Yeah that was my point was that we might be only team offering him a starting role. Can leverage that into a short term/team friendly deal.

I see what you mean. Problem will be IF there is another team that needs a starter...more like 3 teams...which I think their will be next year....he’ll likely go to the team that likes him but will not be able to get into the Tua Hebert sweepstakes. He’ll look for $20mil per year. I think if the Titans want to keep him it’ll be on a long term contract. If not...I think he moves on. In that case we may and try and keep Tanny while we try to move up for one of the top two qbs!!!

Well MM8 hasn’t shown the consistency for any of the teams needing a QB to want to spend big money on him instead of who they currently have in place. Barring a fantastic 2020 season there won’t be many teams lining up to pay him that $20 million (if any). So not only is no one offering him the dollar amount he wants but the titans are the only ones offering guaranteed playing time. In that sense there’s no need to bid against ourselves when we are offering him something no one else is. If things stay status quo, Dallas isn’t going to want to sign Marcus over Dak (because it’s not much of an upgrade, If any). Bucs wouldn’t want to offer him big money. Oakland has a lot of dead money on that Carr deal so I just don’t see them moving him or cutting him. But would they really want to get out of Carr’s contract and turn around to sign Marcus? Why not just stay with Carr?

I’d like to wait and get Trevor Lawrence from Clemson. Think he’s going to be a stud. I’m not too high on Tua currently.

But I’d even more so like Marcus to show up big time this year and have one less thing to worry about.

5 OC’s, 3 HC’s, at least a dozen different OL lineups due to injury, injuries to himself and up to the last 2 years now the only legitimate threat in the passing game was a TE... Look, all I’m saying is name one other QB who has dealt with the same and been successful... I can’t name one. It isn’t defending him it’s just being real.

Consistency comes from everywhere and there just hasn’t been ANY in this organization since Fisher left like it or not,

You cannot have more consistency than he did between 16 and 17. Yet his play declined significantly. What's the excuse there?

Statistically 2016 was his best year. Still as I said, and IF you had actually read my post, you would have seen I mentioned injuries along the OL as well as injuries to himself... unless the Conklin knee injury or Marcus broken leg and other various injuries have no weight in your mind... there were other injuries (concussions) along the line that season (17) as well.

All I was replying to was the consistency comment, and pointing out the organization itself and the team haven’t exactly been the model of consistency since Fisher left. Give him blame when he deserves it, give him props when he deserves those as well but be mindful there are always 10 other guys on the field with him along with playcallers and coaches (and let’s be honest here, up until last season they’ve been SHYTE and a revolving door). Hopefully this new OC sticks around for more than 1 season.

Yeah dude haha I’m a Mariota supporter. I believe in his abilities but we have to start thinking about this because after this year we’ve got a lot of decisions to make.

2016 Total QBR 59.1, 13th best in the league.
2017 Total QBR 58.6, 13th best in the league.

Basically did the same both years, when using advanced metrics that measure total contribution. (One should not ignore Mariota's contribution via running.)

Maybe we should just chalk it up to being snakebit. Either way, a snakebit, fragile, qb who can't read defenses and has no pocket awareness is not the guy you drop 20+mil on for an extended period of time.

Snakebit and fragile I can agree with. Can't read defenses? No, he does fine with that. The big problem I have seen is the "snakebit" thing, the past getting in his head, he second guesses, shuffles his feet unessesarily, is overly tentative, etc.

9-7

3000 yards passing
600 yards rushing
8 TDs
15 Ints
3 injuries
And a brand new contract

With another team.

Marcus Mariota played through a ridiculous list of injuries in 2018. Should he get a pass?

The ones he played through... fragile, not so much. Snakebit, yeah but 40 some odd sacks doesn’t help. I do seem to remember another QB who could have been great had he not been getting killed week in week out, but their respective games are very different. I also don’t believe he’s had the opportunity to master a single offense yet (again 5 different OC’s). No matter who you are or where you stand on the subject this can’t be disputed nor can it be ignored. You might be right, I just think there’s more to what’s going on.

With reliable wrs( Second time ever in his career potentially) and a good OL the sky is the limit with Mariota. I think the only thing that holds him back is injuries and a first time OC

Oh his replacement is definitely already being thought of...Jrob been making those chess moves already....

The Titans players and leadership must all want to lose this season and in the future.

They've quietly built a solid franchise only to sabotage us with a weak QB. Just to spite us.

No...I think quite the opposite. I believe they want Mariota to ball out and are doing everything they can to make that happen for him. That being said, they realize he has been very unhealthy and has been declining the past two years. A smart GM puts you in a position to both win now, and be okay should you have to change the tide...and a rookie coming into a revamped OL and receiving corps. Helps a ton.
