That's all well and dandy... on paper. The real concern is, what happens if he stains his hamstring or breaks a rib. The "ceiling" or "potential" is irrelevant if you can't reach

Agree with this

Cant reach any ceiling if hes injured. If he stays healthy all year, he will play good enough.

abc was hyping up drew effing lock going into the draft... he is the biggest mary hater here. you already know the answer.

Any QB the Titans get, or "might" get, will be loved by the hardest core haters

You think Tannehill has a chance to beat out Mary? (Honest question)
Yes. They want more out of Mariota, not just to have a reliable backup. I'm sure they are hoping this lights a fire underneath him and he consistently plays the way that he ddoes at the end of games, when he's decisive and aggressive. Kind of like when Flu replaced Henry , and he decided to fight for his job. They want Mariota to do the same. If he does that, then he'll be the starter. If not, we begin the search for our next QB.

IF Mariota stays healthy AND his weapons stay healthy, he could be in for a big year.

We talk about surrounding MM with all this talent, but it doesn’t matter if they aren’t playing. And it doesn’t matter if MM is hurt.

We got the worst case scenario last year. An injured and beat up MM and losing his top 2 weapons from the previous year all in week 1. Not to mention no running game and and piss poor OL.

So don’t be surprised to see a dramatic difference in MM “stats” this year if everyone stays healthy.

Having a real running game will be HUGE for the O as well. The shear number of 3rd and Longs we had to face last year because of an inept running game killed our O for the 1st 12 weeks.

IF MM and the O can stay healthy (and that is a big if) I expect a lot of good things

Oh for sure we will be looking QB if he doesn’t improve big time....Already took Falk last year, added Tannehill and another guy this year. Clearly they are focusing on the position, and not because they are so high on Mary. I think like all of us, they want him to succeed and do well, but the clock is ticking.

Last year in the off season, I posted a poll:
Mariota is going to...
About Mariota, will he get better with the new coaching staff, will he remain about the same, or will he get worse.

I was very high on Mariota, and I voted "Lot's better".

I was wrong.
Advanced analytics show Mariota did about the same last year, or slightly worse.

His Total QBR in 2017 was 55.6, 13th best in NFL
His Total QBR in 2018 was 58.6, 19th best in NFL

Mediocrity!
He has some great games.
He has some bad games.

Overall....he's average.

I am no longer so high on Mariota.
There is no doubt he has potential, he COULD become a great QB.

I just no longer think its likely.

Take a minute, follow that link to last year's poll.
See how you voted.
See how he actually performed.

Take that into account when you predict this coming year.

If anyone has access to the stats it would be interesting to find out what our playcalling looks like in the redzone. EX: Is it 60-40 Run to Pass?

Valid points...BUT...we didn't take into account Walker going down for the whole season, Smith for like half, Henry being terrible except for a month, and our OL was pretty bad. If we had taken that into account the pieces around Mariota and how THEY'D play, I think most would think he would have done worse.

But this thread is about his ceiling, not about what we expect.

it's very heavy run, that's why henry had so many TDs last year, mostly very short yardage

I think his ceiling is 40 TD's. But everyone would have to stay healthy, the OL would have to be top 5, DH would have to beast out like last December all year, and our quartet of CD, AB, AH, and TT would have to play to their max potential with a healthy Walker...AND we'd have to be a passing team.

Since that is unlikely, I think in this offense his ceiling is low 30's for TD's..running and throwing....with a 3:1 TD to turnover ratio. Yards is a stat fans like but I'm more concerned points, controlling the clock, moving the ball, and our 3rd down conversion rate (red zone too). If he helps us consistently with these things, I'm less concerned with his personal stats than with the whole offense and what he's doing in it.

Our goal should be to have a top 10 offense in points, TOP, sacks, and turnovers on offense.

MM needs to stay healthy, protect the ball better, show better pocket awareness, and be willing to throw the ball away to avoid sacks.

If he can do that then his ceiling will certainly be that of a true franchise QB.

I'm excited to see a jumbo package with Kelly as a 3rd OT on the field with Davis, Humphries and AJ Brown as our 3 WRs with Henry as the single RB. This would really force the defense into a tough spot...and pretty much guarantee a WR on a S/LBer.

Primed for a big year

40 TDs this year is very unlikely unless we lose a lot of games badly and Mariota is able to run up his stats in garbage time. The team is planning to go with a run based O.

Big year for Mariota, needs to stay healthy
Hopefully the OL plays top 5 again, Delanie back
Other WRs improve, addition of Humphries
Henry picks up where he left off, Lewis shows why we signed him

I see 3800-4000 yds, 30-32 TDs 7-8 ints
Another 5-7 rushing for Mariota

Yeah, our D royally fell apart if this is the case.

More passing TD's about 12 should do it , with a few less interceptions. That's it ... That's his f**king CEILING.

Would like to be proven wrong. But he himself has made the conscious decision to prove the "haters" correct.

1.Stay healthy (play 16 plus games)
2.Beat the colts and Luck.(Twice)
3.Make the playoffs

I don't care much about stats.
