So should everyone be held accountable for their performance...or only blame the QB for everyone's mistakes? You keep absolving the wr's who dropped passes, the wr who ran the wrong route and messed up a big play, the wr who ran backwards to cost us a key first down, the poor blocking (run and pass - and I'm not talking about sacks that were Mariota's fault), not running henry more when he's ripping them up at a 5+ypc, and letting all the time run out on the playclock before we punted the ball when we were losing.

Your problem is you want to invoke the accountability thing, but you ignore it for everyone not named Mariota. Football is a team sport and you need the TEAM to win. I point out Mariota's fault and mistakes...I just don't make up stuff to pile on top of them and blame other people's mistakes on him.

So, should everyone be held accountable for their mistakes? Yes or no?
I'm sure the wrs are sick of being held accountable when they are having to chip DEs, run block, and get no opportunities to do their actual jobs despite getting open. The OL is sick of being held accountable when the QB is making their job more difficult by holding the ball and drifting into pressure, and being unable to threaten the defenses and presenting stacked boxes. The defense is sick of being held accountable because they are at the top of the league in almost every category despite being unable to get off of the field.

Mariota is killing this team. Everyone seems to be aware of this other than you . Watch some 21st century football and report back to us. May take you a while to catch up. You've obviously missed much over the years

So, is your answer the QB is the only one who should be held accountable for doing or not doing his job? ANY successful franchise holds EVERYONE accountable because it is the only way to keep everyone playing their best. While the QB is the most important position on the field, this is still a team game! That's just as true in the 1960's and it is in 2019!

You are making the biggest mistake in football and you don't even know it! And you think I need to learn something? LOL!!!

Here, I'll help you out. Wr's having to chip on DE's has nothing to do with the QB, but means we don't pass block well enough. They can thank the OL for that...not the QB. They are having to run block because we have one of the best rb's in the league and our HC wants him to be the focal point of the offense. They can thank them both...not the qb. The OL is held accountable for how they play, not sacks Mariota takes unnecessarily. You think the OL coach is blaming them for Mariota's 2 sacks? LOL! They aren't fans who make stuff up, they watch the tape. When they give up sacks because of them, it's on them!!! The defense is at the top of almost every stat except getting off the field on 3rd down? LOL!!! That's one of the most important defensive stats! I suppose when they miss tackles and give up big plays due to bad coverage or bad run fits, that's on the QB, right?

LOL! Get back to me when you learn how football works.

Something happened from that year until now. Injuries? System changes? Complexity of the gm? I’m just speaking out in general and will leave the potential reasons for discussions. His decision making, footwork, pocket awareness, accuracy, and most importantly his confidence were at another level compared to now. When the pocket seemed to collapse he stepped up while keeping his eyes down field which is the complete opposite of what he’s doing now. When he made his decision the ball came out with velocity. That first throw in the video is a prime example. This is how he should be playing. The potential and ability is there for sure but for whatever reason Mariota isn’t trusting what he sees and it’s having a ripple effect on the rest of his game.

Didn't he deliver average to above average QB play in week 1?

I understand your frustration with Mariota. I really do! But we have bigger problems beyond just the QB. QB will work itself out. Mariota will provide the level of play they want or he won't. If he doesn't, at some point they'll give tannehill a shot and that will be that.

How come no one is hating on the wr's who dropped key passes? Jones setting us back on 2 first down run plays cuz he got knocked back into henry's path (and he just signed an extension), or Saffold who just got paid and has already given up more sacks this year than probably his last two seasons in LA, or 8 players on D who missed key tackles that would have made Indy punt, or gotten sacks on Jacoby B or Santos for missing a 45 yard kick? or the coaches for 'saving' henry when he was rolling so our offense could stall, and then not use him in the 4th quarter or a whole lot of coaching issues?

Mariota has been a problem...but if all of these other things aren't problems too...Mariota would be playing average to above average ball and this hatred goes away. Would still be an argument about whether he deserves an extension or is just a product of those around him....but we'd be in much better shape.

I hope we take these frustrations out on the Jags!!!

He played ok week one. Made a. Couple of good throws. But he didn't move the chains well at all. Fortunately, the browns helped him out a lot.

But frankly, in year 5, average should the abberation, the bad game. Not what you hope for. And games like week 2? Those should simply never happen.

Mariota is the problem. He just doesn't have it. This off season, preseason, and first two weeks has removed all doubt.

You seem to think the rest of the team has to be perfect before mariota is to blame. I find the opposite. A real qb elevates the play of those around them. Mariota doesn't.

If I were the coach, we'd be seeing tannehil this week. If we're gonna lose, I wanna lose trying something different. Watching Marcus panic, clutch the ball too long, get sacked, and throw the ball with poor placement doesn't interest me.

You are trying too hard. The QB will get the majority of the blame and the majority of the praise. Mariota rarely does enough to get praise. It doesn’t matter what other players do. The QB1 is the focus. And, he’s been sub-par the last two years.

Mariota in every press conference takes the blame for his mistakes and everyone else's. He's gonna say that because that's the criticism coming down because it didn't work out. Even after Smith presser Mariota went in and tried to defend him and take blame off of him.

Listen to Smith talking about it and he says a lot of what I said ironically. if you run the play on 3rd down and don't get out of bounds (and every play we ran weren't sideline plays), you don't have time to spike it as there is probably 10 seconds or less left. That tells me this was how they planned to run the 2min drill...but it wasn't a good plan. And as Smith said in his presser, you have to look at all of the plays because they wasted a lot of time so you have to go all the way back to the first down play. He agreed he needed to call better plays!

Marcus Mariota's mistakes can't keep adding to Titans' losses

Gut- I think you do a good job of breaking down a lot of issues. You use root cause analysis which is excellent.

But you've got a blind spot or bias occurring right now. Mariota is in year 5- not year one or two even. His decision making has been stuck at a 1st year QB for 4 years now. That's long enough for most people to recognize it isn't going to develop further into a franchise level starting QB. So I'm just going to have to agree to disagree with you on Mariota. I've been behind him believing we don't need an elite QB to go far, just a serviceable one. And up until last week I thought Mariota could be that. But for the reason mentioned above, I'm ready to cash out on him (if possible) and search for better.

The conundrum is the state of the AFCS. If it was any other year I could see JRob cutting bait without a doubt. But with Foles hurt, Luck retired and Watson running for his dear life every week, the titans still have a wonderful chance at the division, so I think he draws out the Mary saga as long as he can walk and throw. It’s a desperation move instead of just moving on

I don't get the allure/obsession with winning the division

if we win division or wildcard, is it going to make much difference? how deep do you think we get with him? it took a TD throw to himself to win a playoff game, which promptly led to a throttling in the next game.. so whooptydo

he's not the long term solution, and winning the division once means little to nothing if you can't do anything with it

Great , let’s root for them to lose lol. Life itself isn’t guaranteed

I wouldn’t think so. Jail break every play won’t matter who’s at QB and we know THill would die just the same.

Let MM get hurt so the decision to move on is easy.
You treat the #2 overall pick like a FA rookie. I thought that you were smarter.

The Mary faries will only see the obvious if Mary fails spectacularly on an offense with a first ballot hall of fame as OC, hc, and all ten other starting positions.

I found it funny before. But how anyone is still making excuses and defending Mary now half baffles half enrages me at this point.

I guess that how you can see it. I’m talking about moving on from MM but let him continue to take the beating from the OL until Lewan comes back at least.
If THill is going to get a legit shot to prove anything, at least let him have the best LT available.

Tannehill would come in and get abused... then we'd have 2 shell shocked QBs.

And suddenly we'd hear all about how we should be starting the third QB.

that miss when Sharpe was wide open 1v1 on the outside.. embarrassing

it wasn't even raining at the time.. how do you miss that?

Seriously. Even Sharpe looks like he could be a good receiver if he had an accurate QB. Getting open downfield vs a CB who teams want to trade the house for. Mariota hit there, but missed him at least twice on other potential big plays this year. Let alone the other receivers that we have.

I expected MM to come in and light it up this year, knowing he has a back up that can replace him and since its a contract year. Maybe the past injuries have caught up with him. See this a lot where a player has potential, but the body cant with stand the punishment.
