I've wondered if they've considered moving out of the first entirely. Trade 19 to a team for next year's first and a second or third this year. Preferably a team that will suck.

We may need two firsts next year if it's time to replace Mary, which I think is more likely than not.

Definitely gonna be in the thought process. BUT...two things. Most bad teams do NOT want to trade next year's first rounder and how much do we want say NE's first rounder next season which could be pick 30-32. The thing is, I could see NE making a big move in round 1 for someone they want. They are not keeping all those picks and with comp picks being tradeable, I expect NE to make a move for someone. If Hockenson makes it out of the top 10 or Fant is available at our pick...we could get an offer. But what do you want from a team like that?

Here's an option...drop down from 19 to 24 with the Raiders in exchange for moving up in round 2 (pick 51 to 35). If we wanted, it would only take like a 6th to move up a few spots to pick 32 if we wanted to get the last pick in round 1...almost for free. So if the value isn't there or we don't like what we're seeing, we could definitely move down and get 2 of the top 2nd round graded players at the positions we want.

Another option is down all the way down to NE in round 1 for their 2nd (although last in round 2) and a pack of gum (late round pick) OR take their first round pick in 2020 (and hope they don't make the playoffs somehow!).

Moving up we could get to about 15th if we gave up our 3rd rounder and maybe 14th if we gave up our 3rd and 4th round picks. Possible we could do that if someone big feel out of the top 10...but I don't think we do that.

So most of these mock drafts have about 6-7 offensive players going before us. But there are ostensibly 4 QBs, 5 OTs, 5 WRs, 2 OGs and 2 TEs that could go top 20. I could see a scenario where one or more of these "top 10" defenders fall either to 19 or close enough for a move up.

Yes...that is the hope. But you still might need to go up and grab someone if they get to 14 or 15 depending on how many players we like because other teams could jump up for someone.

Could you specify the offensive players you’re referring to? I don’t see this many on my board.

The answer here is clearly Sweat and I don't think it's particularly close. But I don't think he makes it out of the top 10.

I'm a Miss. State fan, so I've probably watched him more than most on here but he was dominant off the edge and teams didn't have an answer for him. I like him better than Josh Allen. With Sweat, Abram and Simmons that defense scary good. Most people don't realize it was ranked better than Bama's defense last year.

Anyway, Sweat could have a Kearse like impact on this team and take us from good to great - and I don't think that's my maroon colored glasses coming through either. Just watch the tape on him. He can beat you with power, speed (4.41 40 time!) and pass rush moves. He's the complete package and if he makes it out of the top 10, JRob should be seeing what the cost would be to move up.

I can't stand Miss State, but you're right. Sweat is the clear choice if he were to somehow drop to us. He won't of course, but in this poll he should be the winner.

That's pretty impressive for a big man

I would tear something!

The fondling is a little disturbing though lol

I agree 100 percent that he's the best prospect on the list. Hockenson isn't far behind at all though. I made my decision based off the fact that there will be some really good edge guys on day 2 for us. You can't say that about tight end.

I also think out of everyone on this list, Sweat is the least likely to fall to 19. He has that heart issue though so who knows how that could affect things.
The problem with TE is that it's not nearly as important as pass rush. After QB, you could make a strong argument that pass rush is the 2nd most important position in football. TE would be way down the list, so pass rush even if it's the 6th pass rusher on the board would be more of a valuable of a pick than the 1st TE (in this draft).

Think back to the Superbowls the Giants won. They had 4 stud pass rushers and they won with defense. We need people to get in Andrew Luck's face and put him on the ground. That's the key to winning the division.

If the 6th best pass rusher isnt very good, And never pans out, then no, he is not a better pick than a guy who is all pro level at a less important position.

In the first round, you want studs. Game changers. Picking in the later part of the round, you aren't likely yo find those at the premium positions. So get a stud at whatever position is there.

Who has been more valuable to the team? Derrick Morgan, first round pick at a premium position, or Delaine walker, an unimportant position?

Here’s how I see it....Would I be fine with defense? Absolutely...Edge or DT are fine by me...That said, we do have edge players. We have basically nobody behind Walker who is 35 and injured. We have zero clue how he will be. Jonnu underwhelmed and Firkser/Pruitt are depth guys. My only counterargument is that TE does play a big role. A guy like Hock both blocks and catches the ball. He’s a stud and affects the run and pass game. I’d honestly prefer a DT because we need interior push...It all depends on who is sitting there at 19, but we may trade up...I just hope we don’t go WR in round 1.

You missed something very important I said. I said "IN THIS DRAFT."

Top 6 players (on most boards) who can rush the passer at the top of this draft: Bosa, Quinnen, Allen, Sweat, Ed Oliver, Wilkins.

I'd take any of those players over the top TE in this draft (presumably Hockenson). Our starting OLBs had exactly 2 sacks between them last year and it directly effected our ability to win games, because QBs like Luck could sit back and pick us apart.

Again, I'm talking about THIS draft. To steal your line, who has been more valuable to our team? Jevon Kearse or Taylor Thompson? See you can pick any two random players and make the same point. Current and past players are irrelevant to what I was talking about.

Finally, I'm not even sure why we're wasting time talking about it anyway, Hockenson is going top 10 and we won't have a chance to draft him anyway.

Ok, if your including DTs, your six thing makes sense. I thought you meant edge only.

And yeah. Hock will likely go before 19. But not necessarily. Howard went 19.

I just think this franchise was as bad as it was because we took poor players at need positions rather than BPA a lot.

I honestly don't expect that part to change because J-Rob has done that every year in the 1st round.

There have been reasonable prospects at our pick, or we moved up.

I was talking more the Derrick morgans, Jake lockers, and Kendal Wright's of the past.

Strange how McShay mocked Deandre Baker to us st 19. Is that realistic? I like him but a corner ? Do these guys do their homework or am I missing something? I like best player available but he didn’t seem like the best player at that spot nor a position of dire need.

Those guys suck

Nothing to see here
