I don't see many people saying he's flat out terrible. Most that are critical are just saying he's not doing much most games that's really impressive. He has his moments of brilliance, but nothing consistent and certainly nothing warranting a long term deal.
That's the the crossroads we're at now - do we pay him to keep him here for years to come, do we franchise him and keep kicking the can down the road, or do we cut ties and move on and try our luck in the draft again?
For anyone saying he'll play for pennies on the dollar, I just don't know where you're getting that. Are you just imagining that this pro QB doesn't care about millions of dollars? He has the same agent as Carson Wentz and Jared Goff. Wentz (who is also often injured) just got paid and I imagine Goff will sometime soon too. His agent is going to handle this, not Marcus. He chose his agent to negotiate for him and act in his best interest. His agent is going to ask for a good bit. Maybe not Wentz money ($32M/year of new money), but still at least gonna be $25M+.
Can anyone here really sit there and tell me he's been playing at a $25M/year level? If we tag him though, he's going to cost that much anyways. So what do we do? Talk about his adjusted completion % and how much weight he's put on all you want, but it doesn't remove the elephant in the room that is his contract situation.
Actions speak louder than words and the front office not acting at all on his contract situation speaks louder than anyone throwing stats around, and showing highlight videos. The front office is saying they don't have confidence in his health, his production, and they have no idea if he'll be here next year. Wentz has been injured and his FO still gave him a big deal. We traded for a guy who has starter potential to back him up because of the lack of confidence.
Love the person all you want, but don't let your appreciation for Marcus the person blind you to the issues that Marcus the QB has.
