If he plays well enough that the Titans want to resign him, there will be many other teams willing to pay him. That said just tag him. I'm sorry but if he does have a solid year, I want him to show me 1 more before giving him 100M+.

Who are the teams that would pay him big money?

If nobody else is interested, then he played poorly or had another injury.

I’m trying to see it. You seem to be saying that Mariota will have a good season but nobody will want him, therefore his price tag will be low. Maybe that will happen somehow, idk.

Most teams have drafted a young QB or have a vet in place with a big contract already. Aren’t many teams left at this point.

Can't see many teams in need of a QB

Chargers? Who's behind Rivers? Tyrod Taylor

Jags? Foles may not last to see that contract

TB? If Winston doesn't perform

NE, Brady retires...Mariota goes on to win multiple SuperBowls :)

There's always mutliple teams in need of a QB. Every single year, without fail.

It's one game.....obviously, if he throws 3 TDs per game, it would be dumb to nitpick. But I don't think it's nitpicking to point out that he was ineffective for 3 quarters and it took a dominant defensive effort to keep us in the game. It's the first game, and plenty of QBs did worse. We're just going to need production from more than PA .

Ah, so if he throws 48 TD's, then you agree you shouldn't nitpick? I see...LOL!

So you don't think it's nitpicking to say he was ineffective for 3 quarters? I'd say it isn't nitpicking so much as it is flat out wrong! What happened to you doing a little research before posting? Don't worry, there are people like me who catch made up stuff...

Here are the actual numbers...
Q1-----3/5 (60%) with 11.8ypa. Out of his 3 completions, 2 went for first downs and 1 was a 47yd chunk play. Good for a 101.2 QB rating. I'd say that's effective given his mere 5 attempts.

Q2-----5/13 (38%) with 3.5ypa. Out of his 5 completions, 3 were first downs and he had 2 sacks. Clearly this was not a very effective quarter and where he struggled the most. Only a 48.9 QB rating.

Q3-----4/4 (100%) with a 31.2ypa. Out of his 4 completions, 2 were first downs and 2 were 20+yds (big plays) and 1 TD! Good for a 158.3 qb rating.

Q4-----2/2 (100%) with a 9.0ypa. Out of his 2 completions, both were first downs and both were TD's!!! Good for a 143.8 QB rating.

So it looks like he had one bad Qarter but was effective in the other 3 quarters! Is that what you meant? He was EFFECTIVE for 3 quarters!

I just don’t understand the sentiment around having to sign Marcus to a huge long term contract. What other team is going to be bidding for his services on a massive deal?

Why would the Titans bid against themselves? Doesn’t make any sense to me.

So let's play this out. Suppose Mariota throws/runs for 30 TD's and has 15 TO's and throws for 3800 yds...partially because we are a run first team. We go 10-6 and win 1 playoff game. You decide he's not worth 25mil/yr and is no longer gonna be on our team in 2020.

Who are you signing to be our starter for 2020? Who (and how) are you drafting anyone?

If you watched the game you know he played poorly for most of the game.

This is what the coach had to say about his performance...

''He was composed,'' Vrabel said of Mariota. ''He got us into all the right plays. They were pressuring, and some of those things weren't easy. It wasn't perfect. He will tell you he missed some throws, but he competed.

far from a ringing endorsement.

But that’s what I’m saying what other team is going to be bidding. Marcus and his agent can ask for whatever they want but they won’t have much leverage if there aren’t other teams interested.

Think about it. Let's say Drew Brees, Phillip Rivers, Brady are either retiring or will in another year or two. Add Miami, Raiders, Jags, and someone who thought they had a QB but ends up they don't. If he puts up top 15 numbers and 'leads' the team to the playoffs, someone will pay him.

Then what do we get with no QB, the 25th pick in the draft and not a ton of cap room?!

Yes, I think we can agree he didn't play well in Q2. Which of the other quarters did you think he played poorly? Not sure how you think he played poorly most of the game when he was perfect in the 2nd half and played well in Q1....?

Considering how poorly the offensive line did at stopping the pass rush, I think Mariota did VERY well. No turnovers, no stupid mistakes, 3 TD passes. And most importantly, led the offense to score a LOT of points.

But...
But...
But...

Mariota has done this before. Played super well one game, and super poorly another.

Its playing CONSISTENTLY well, that Mariota has to do.

Yep. I have hopes that this year, he can. He has more weapons than ever before. And it appears thus OC knows how to run a balanced offense that plays to mariotas strengths, and minimizes the offenses weakness (line right now).

But we shall see. We win these next two, and things look awfully pretty in titantown.

I said nothing about the annual value of his contract. I’m talking about signing him to a 5-7 year deal.

The Saints, Chargers, and Patriots aren’t going to spend big money on Mariota if those guys aren’t retiring - they have a roster to build to try and win more Super Bowls while those guys are still playing. Can’t spend big money for a backup QB. Big IF that they all retire at once. Saints have re signed Bridgewater for that very reason. They also love Hill.

Raiders have Carr. Jags have no cap space because of Foles. Miami will be picking top 10 and most likely want their own guy.

Oh so the Chargers are going to spend 20+ million on a backup? Lol

If Winston doesn’t perform that team is picking top 10 with a good QB class coming out.

Jags are currently going to be 19 million over the cap next year.

Sure there will be multiple teams but this would need to be a team who isn’t picking in the top of the draft. A lot of scouts have been talking about how deep this QB class is.

Back up to Taylor?? Lol ok
Rivers is nearing the end

Tennessee 43-13 over Cleveland

Credit where it's due: The Titans played well in every facet of the game. Marcus Mariota was the best quarterback on the field, throwing for 248 yards and three touchdowns without turning the ball over and averaging 10.3 yards per attempt. Rookie receiver A.J. Brown exploded for 100 yards. Derrick Henryracked up 159 yards and two touchdowns from scrimmage. The defense got after Mayfield and then picked him off three times in the fourth quarter. The Titans looked legit. They looked exactly like we thought the Browns would look. After one week, they look like a team that should be in play for a playoff spot
