You mean where the woman he was hitting was on the ground already and he was just wailing on her? How is that defending your sister? And it looked like the sister had a big weight advantage over the female on the ground. Go back and watch because you clearly didn't see the video.

Have you seen the full video? He tried to seperate them at first. Then he started wailing on her while both of the girls were still fighting on the ground. Pretty sure the large woman in red you're speaking of was his mom not his sister. His sister was in white and tangled up with her until he started punching her.

Again, not saying it's right. Clearly it's not. But the situation is also clearly not the same as Rice, Hunt, and others. Emotions were high with disrespect given about his family, he was also defending his sister but clearly crossed a line. Add to that, he was 17.

He's been a high character guy at Miss St and has owned up to his mistake.

Reminds me of the Justin Tuck pick by the giants years ago. Knee injury is why he fell to them, they obviously had no regrets with the pick.

I know there’s a transcript out there of this presser but watching this live was something else. You can tell this kid has head head on straight now and is 100% authentic. @ 9:20 Amy gives her input on the pick and her comments clearly hit home for the big fella. Excited for the big man to suit up and get after it when he’s healthy.

That's awesome, hope he realizes the opportunity in front of him. Heal up, help this team!

Looking forward to seeing what he can do.

He's in the same boat as Tyreek Hill to me now. Can't cheer for anyone that lays hands on a female. Embarrassing time to be a Titans fan.
Really? More than when their all-time great QB was discovered to have side hoes to the point of buying second places to live with them?
Everyone seems to remember Steve McNair in a good light.

Not agreeing with what he did, I'd never hit a woman and would lose my sh*t if someone hit one of my daughters, but just watched the video. Funny how the woman in red hits the "defence less" woman on the ground, kicks her at the end and then drags her by the leg afterward and nothing is said lol
Again not agreeing with any of it, I don't know what was said about his family but sometimes verbal abuse is just as bad.
He was 17, angry, and defending his family, hope he's learned a valuable lesson.

I obviously don't condone what he did. He lost his composure when a family member was being attacked, he should have known better, but it's easier for me to say that when it's not my sister being attacked, etc.

That being said, if everything they are saying is true about him completely turning things around, and being involved with the community and such, then he's doing everything he can on his part to try and show everyone that's not truly who he is.

I hope he can make a full recovery from his injury, and can help us when he gets back!

From Sports Illustrated....

The Titans’ selection of Jeffery Simmons was one of the most interesting of Day 1, and Tennessee absolutely went over the top in researching the Mississippi State star defensive lineman. GM Jon Robinson, VP of player personnel Ryan Cowden, and college scouting director Jon Salge all have deep connections at the school—all three were assigned to the Mississippi State as area scouts in their younger years. And head coach Mike Vrabel has a strong relationship with ex-Bulldogs coach Dan Mullen through Meyer, whom both men worked for. Mullen recruited Simmons to Starkville, through the ugly incident where Simmons struck a woman (and was caught on video) as a high schooler, and coached him in 2016 and ’17. What came back to the Titans brass was what you heard across the NFL the last few months. As bad as the early 2016 incident was, Simmons became as good a kid as MSU had in its program the last three years. And if this works out, after Simmons’s ACL heals, the Titans are getting a guy that many considered to be in the Nick Bosa/Quinnen Williams category, based on his game tape.

I don't get this sentiment.

It happened. He did it. He's taken responsibility for it.

Not everyone was aware of the incident. It'd be negligent of ESPN and NFLN to not talk about it.

So you think all the draft coverage of Simmons should be about negative things that happened 3 years ago and not actually show any highlights of his play?

Don’t you think there are many Titans fans who don’t know him as a player and might want to see what they are getting ON THE FIELD?

By the sounds of it he regrets what he did, went on to MS and excelled, was a good student, teammate, football player. Was a positive person the community.

If he didn't tear his ACL he would be going top 5.
I'm glad we got him at 19...hope he continues on the right path and takes full advantage of the 2nd chance he's been given

Yeah I am on that boat. I don't know much at all about the kid and all they did was show highlights of the beating.

It's absurd they acted like it was their obligation to show the video. I can see it now next year:

"Sam Fitzgerald out of USC to the Raiders. What do you got for us Mel?"

"Well he failed his freshman chemistry class, and I have a detention slip here from where he punched a student and got ISS in the 6th grade."

"Interesting. Sounds like a reach. On to the Packers."
