Again because: Athlete>QB in his world. He wins via stiff arm, block, run, a rare self thrown TD. Don’t get me wrong, I love his heart and the kid is fun to watch and super clutch. That said, it’s the little things he doesn’t do and his bad play against teams we need to beat that bury us. 13 followed by 11 TD’s with as many INT’s is unacceptable. We aren’t getting to the next level with that, plain and simple.

It's not that Mariota is reckless. He just knows the preseason is his best chance for a touchdown so he had to capitalize.

True.
But had he not fought for the 2pt conversion, people here would have lost their minds. Lol
Nobody cares about the score of a preseason game. If he managed to avoid the hit and looked smart doing so, we'd think that he actually might be starting to get it. He clearly doesn't.

He really doesnt get it. It's like everything goes out the window when the pass rush is on. I respect the competitor in him, but as a QB you need to make sure you're around for next week.

It's really the only position you get to be selfish and live to fight another day. And he doesn't utilize that.

Agreed. Doing that in a preseason game is a great way to get killed. Some guy on the bubble trying to earn his paycheck. His situational awareness isn't very good at all. That's why he throws picks like a rookie still. It's also why he takes sacks and doesn't throw the ball away enough.

I think everyone is overreacting, it's football, he made a football play and was smiling and enjoying himself afterwards. I am glad to see him playing freely, not worrying about injury, even if his career in Tennessee depends on him staying healthy. It shows he's not thinking about all the outside noise, he's just playing football and trying to win.

I worried about him focusing on the fact he can't get hurt or could lose his job, that it would make him play timid, it's a relief to see he isn't. So if he wants to dive over guys in a meaningless preseason game, so be it.

Honestly, the more wreckless he plays, the more memorable the play for him.
His most famous plays are a huge block, a scrambling stiff arm, a poor throw that happened to come right back to him, and an 87 yard scramble.

Let him play. Worst case, he gets injured again, people can say “I told you so”, and tannehill can show what he’s got in actual game time with a different team.

Mariota will be fine throughout preseason.

It wasn't bad at all. I watched it over and over, it looked a lot worse than it was. The dude dove in front of him, it was the best move he could make. He jumped, kept his legs together, arms in, and landed safely.

What was he supposed to do? Run right into him? Do a hurtle style jump? Those would be much worse.

That looks pretty bad.....

again, what should he have done?
Throw it out of the back of the end zone, use his athleticism to evade him and rush to the edge, slide- there are plenty of things that a smarter player could have done. As I said, there's no way they are tying up money into a QB who is going to continue to take dumb shots like that. His fate is sealed.

1. He had already crossed the line of scrimmage, throwing it was not an option
2. Trying to evade would have been riskier as his leg's would be more vulnerable
