Why would mariota get credit for 9-7 seasons when passing game is literally the worst part of our team every one of those years LOL
Let's examine 2018 then.
You could take his play out of the Dallas game last year and end up 8-8.
Or remove him from the Philly game and end up at 7-9.
Or take him out of JAX game1 and watch someone worse than a concussed Gabbert try to win one. Luke Falk maybe.
Then you'd be complaining about going 6-10 at best.

But when you do this what qb are you replacing him with? The back up or an upgrade we would of made either without getting Mary or moving on?

Also how many more wins would we have if we had an average producing qb? Goes both ways

Also remind me what happened last time gabby went head to head without mariota?

And @VondyP already said whichever qb wins a head to head matchup is better

I like your positive attitude, I'm sure some will but there are those that would rather b*tch and complain.

Looking forward to this season!

I totally hear ya and I know the ones that just come on to b*tch and whine!

I'm looking forward to the draft!!! It's like Christmas in April!!!

But yes...a BIG SEASON this will be!

What that should tell you is that ratings only are indicators. You need to look at the whole package to put things into context. And I'm not making my point for you. If Indy takes the kick off and marches 90 yards down the field...shredding our D, what does THAT have to do with our QB? That's on our D! And part of that shredding is their run game beating our D badly.
You missed my point here. When I say highly rated, I mean that our D compared to every other defense in the league, was well above average. When another team comes out and shreds our defense, it just shows that it doesn't matter how good you're defense is. Good QB play matters more now than it ever has.

If the other team has a better QB, with the way the rules are today, there's not a damn thing you can do to stop them. Load up on defensive playmakers all you want, but the better QB will come out on top a majority of the time. Of course you can give anecdotal evidence where that doesn't always happen, but percentage wise, its true and becoming more true with every season. You have to score points today and move the ball down the field through the air.

I feel like it goes without saying that there are other positions that need improvement. I'm not advocating we move on from Marcus this year. This draft needs to be about getting him better weapons and protection and a better pass rush. But I also think it's common knowledge that if he has yet another lost year to injury or fails to improve and produce, then it's time to move on.

Chargers would’ve destroyed us instead of us having a chance to win. NE the same.

4-10

I really hope no one is saying that we would have had a better shot at winning with Gabbert or some other mid-level replacement QB. Marcus kept us competitive enough, sure. And I'm not one of those people who believes Tannehill is going to come in and win the job either.

The point I think you miss with this whole conversation is that there are a lot of very talented QB's coming out in the draft every year, and they also come with a very cheap cap number for several years. With Marcus, we're going to have to pay a good chunk - even more now with the Russell Wilson signing. Obviously not RW money, but still $20M+ is my guess. And nothing Marcus has done really warrants that kind of money to this point.

If he doesn't prove he deserves starter money, then we should move on. There is a very high chance we can replace or significantly improve on the production he's given us, while getting a younger, cheaper player. It's a cold way to look at it, because I love Marcus the guy, but it's just being real.

Even if Marcus has a stellar season excluding winning the super bowl there is no way he's getting 35Million over 4 years. 25 over 4 I think would be reasonable for both parties. Bear in mind the cap goes up like 10% every year.

Now if he gets us to the promised land that's gonna be problematic and could probably squeeze 30+ with a shed load of guarantees. But 1 stellar season isn't gonna make him for a Rodgers/Wilson contract.

Unless he flips us the bird and goes to FA then anythings possible I.e Cousins.

All options has an upside in my eyes.

Honestly I don't see Mariota as a guy chasing the money. Not saying he won't get the money if he overperfoms, but he seems like a team 1st guy.

If that's the case let's re-sign him for 4 years right now at a deal that reflects his play over the past two seasons.

For an example that will make everyone mad....

2017 & 2018 Seasons
Case Keenum
17-13 record, 65%, 7400 yds, 40 TDs, 22 INTs
Marcus Mariota
18-12 record, 65%, 5700 yds, 24 TDs, 23 INTs

Keenum just signed a deal for 1 year, 3.5M.... just sayin

I'll bet his agent is not a team first guy and since he'll be negotiating the contract...

It’s Mariota. He’ll just give his agent the look and deal’s done.

We’ll have to pay him more now, but not Russell Wilson more. People should’ve listened earlier and we would’ve had a bigger discount

WAY to early to assume he'll be offered a deal past 2019.
