"Coming in as..."

"to compete with"

The only way a GM would word it, initially.

Marcus is gonna be a good backup option, though.
I'm curious to see how the offense looks with a different QB . There really wasn't much of a drop off when Gabbert came in during some of those games.

So when both MM and Ryan are hurt out the back up will be....

Woodshed or whatever the hell his name is lol.

They’re bringing him back as a cheap 3rd stringer.
Doesn’t matter with QB3.
The point is now they can win with QB2.

What games were you watching?
Miami, 1st Indy game, Washington. Mariota was bad in all of these games, and Gabbert came in and didn't play any worse. Better in some instances.

There were games in which Mariota played well, and had performances that Gabbert couldn't match. I just wonder if even a QB of Tannehill's caliber were playing, we'd see more of these good performances and fewer duds.

I agree. You are probably correct. I really can't tell if I am just being pessimistic, but something just seems off. You basically create a qb controversy with the first bad Mariota performance. You give up draft picks when other backups were out there without giving them up. Seems like things we would not want to do without a very good reason if this is an evaluation year or we expect to be contenders.
Mariota is lucky Tennessee didn’t have a QB to take his place the last couple years or the “controversies” would have started then.
I say bring them on. It will either get him to perform or get out of the way.

We will get a comp pick (if we don't go crazy in FA) if Tanny signs somewhere else the following year.

Yeah, this is the part a lot of people are missing.

We could very well get a comp pick that is just as good as what we have up to get Tannehill.

Between Miami paying 5mil of his 7mil salary, cutting Gabby and saving 1.5mil, and potentially getting a comp pick ... we very well could be getting him virtually free.

I was about to say the same thing. He's virtually a 500k hit against our cap, in exchange fora 2020 4th- which we could potentially get back the following year. Couldn't have gone any better.

LOL. The Washington game? The one where he didn’t even finish the first half but still completed 76% of his passes, had a 101 QB rating and led us on 3 scoring drives before leaving? Yeah, he was real terrible in that one. He also threw a terrible pick in the Indy game but didn’t even play a full half. The Dolphins game was the strangest game in NFL history. He played so little in all of those games that it’s impossible make a conclusion about any kind of offensive drop off or lack thereof. How was our offense in games where Gabbert started and played the entire game? Fucking terrible.

Gabbert did play better in the Washington game.

He also didn't get injured midway through....for the millionth time.

Schefty says miami paid 5 mil out of the 7 mil we owe...frickin ridiculous deal...paying 2 mil for what could be a Nick Foles type backup QB.
This is JRobs best deal of the off season in terms of winning
I bet if they would have cut him it would have counted more towards their cap
