Literally not quite. MM literally had more yards and a much higher completion %. They both played well...stats-wise. But that's not the point. That was by far Gabbert's BEST game of the season out of the 6 he played. It was probably Mariota's 5th best game.

MM has a much higher ceiling and a higher floor than Gabbert and he's much more consistent. BUT...MM needs to be much more consistent on a game in game out basis himself to remain being a starting QB or he will turn into a backup QB.

Consistency and durability are his problems and we'll see if he can fix them or he'll be moving on.
Can I just point out that the fact that you guys are arguing over whether Mariota is better than a backup QB, to any rational person, should prove that he is not and will never be a franchise QB. Franchise QBs are compared to the top QBs of the era, not their own backups.

Please explain why Tanne QBR is sooo much lower if he threw more TDs?

Oh yeah, it’s cause those TDs were at points in the game where it didn’t matter.
Congrats for finding the one form of stat that suits you.

Cling to that.

It'll definitely pan out.

This is a GREAT pickup.

I have always liked Tannehill and thought he could have been one of the better QBs in league if not for injuries. While I think Mariota has more talent, Tannehill performs better regularly, more consistently.

My biggest frustration with Mariota is not necessarily that he is injury prone, but that he doesn't seem to be able to play through injuries like most QBs do. Any little boo boo and he is out. Also, he is infuriatingly inconsistent. He will show flashes, have a great game and then crap the bed for 2 games.

If I am JRob/Vrable, I start Tannehill. I feel he gives the Titans the best chance to CONSISTENTLY play well and if he gets hurt, Mariota is a fantastic backup, who is good for only a few good games a year, so maybe its the perfect situation.

Tannehill with the weapons we have (Davis, Walker, Lewis and Humph) will throw for 4000 yards/20+ TDs easily.

Man.

I love the negative reactions my posts get here. I hope nothing changes with the forum so we can up this later.

If you're still THAT committed to Marcus effing Mariota, you've got some personal crush issues. Dude is trash.

I tell y'all this time and time again... you're being too loyal to a trash player. Takes y'all years, literally, to finally understand it.

I wouldn't crown Tanny the starter by any means, but I'd damn well like to see a fairly open camp competition and preseason. I'll be interested to see what each does with their chances .

Those LINKS tho?

Now we got tanniehill do we still draft a qb this year in like round 2-3? Do I want us to extend tannihill and be the starter after this year if Marcus flops. Not really.

Also is Mariotas recovery gonna be still happening in week 1 since we signed a higher class of "back-up qb" than we're used to.

Those of you down on Mariota because of injuries and think Tannehill should start need to remember Tannehill has missed 24 games the last three seasons.

It’s why the Fins went in another direction.

Tannehill is a big jump talent-wise for a #2 but you can bet JRob will keep his QB file updated as neither of his QBs have shown they can stay on the field.

I wouldn't. If needed, we could tag Mariota, or resign Tanny, or someone else as a bridge for a rookie.

This year first three picks get made. DL, edge, WR, maybe a C.

Nope. Even if that’s the concern, next year has more QBs and might as well draft high.

Tannehil has been a 'career mediocre/average backup???'

He's been a fulltime starter for 6 years and has only missed games due to injury I believe. So you're calling full time starters career backups now?

Interesting.
I was referring to Gabbert. Opinions may vary, but I personally believe that the offense didn't game much of a hit when he came in, MOST games. Mariota is clearly the better QB, but his superiority didn't reflect in his production nearly as much as it should have.

Very difficult to say that Tannehill is worse than Mariota, IMO. He's certainly as productive, or even more so in many instances.

I am betting we are drafting a QB this or next year...bank it. I think Jrob and co. are over the injuries and antics.

I remember arguing with people that we should still want Manning despite having Jake Locker on the roster. Does this mean Peyton Manning wasn’t a franchise QB?

Tannehill is just an older Mary.

All signs pointing to us moving on if Mary continues to miss time.

He looks more experienced, calmer. Mariota looks like he doesn't know what the hell he is doing far too often.

I'd be more excited for Tannehill to be the starting QB. The difference between he and Mariota- Tannehill makes perfect throws. Throws which eradicate perfect coverage and give the receivers an opportunity to make a play. The ball placement is basically the equivalent of gently handing the ball to someone-it falls right into their hands with perfect touch. More YAC opportunities because he throws receivers into space. He doesn't do it consistently, but he does it every game. Mariota makes easy throws which require minimal anticipation and more separation. There's a reason why Tannehill has thrown over 4,000 twice, and Mariota has come nowhere close . And also why Tannehill gets more balls into the end zone.

The writing is on the wall. Unless Mariota has an incredible season, his time as a Titan is quickly coming to an end. Going to be 3 or 4 really upset people in Nashville and a lot of very happy fans.
