Then we have fans that want to, essentially, replace Mariota with... "Mariota".Exactly. Very Flota-esque. And yet we have fans who want to make the exact same damn mistake here that they laugh at Miami for.
And I didn't say that. They just want to replace one with the same.I don't think anyone is really clamoring for Tannehill to be the longterm answer here.
I guess I just don't know what you mean by "replace". Do people actually not want to give Mariota this season to see what he can do?And I didn't say that. They just want to replace one with the same.
Some don't, that much is obvious.I guess I just don't know what you mean by "replace". Do people actually not want to give Mariota this season to see what he can do?
He has had 4 and we know what he can do. I just don't see how this season makes a difference. Even if he has a solid season, he has proven he is not the answer. Even if he had a great season, I would not trust it. He is who and what he is, we need a better qb.I guess I just don't know what you mean by "replace". I tend to agree with you. But we have so much invested in him (both time and draft capital) it would be pretty foolish to not give him this season and hope for the best. If he balls out, no I would still not quite trust him as the answer either. But there is always the franchise tag for that scenario. He has had 4 and we know what he can do. You’re not singing his praises man....Get ready for the onslaught!Mariota might be done. His arm looks completely shot. Maybe it's the injuries, maybe he just lost confidence. His passes were off the mark and had absolutely no velocity on them. If that's just who he is now, tannehill is a better passer and it's not even close.
Maybe, but also maybe (and even I will say it), there werent many better options than Mariota available. Keeping him one more year allows us to go after what we hope will be a franchise qb next draft. If he has a great season, he would have proven he could do it.
Most of us agree that this is a prove it year. If the team didnt think this season mattered, we would have moved on
You dont put someone in a prove it year and ignore it if they prove it.
In the unlikely event that Mariota lights it up, your views of him will change.
I've always said I'd tag him again and ask him to prove it again but I'm sure his agent would laugh and ask for a trade or something when his clients value is at its peak.
The real delima will be if he plays "good enough" and shows improvement. That would be a much tougher decision than giving him a contract after a great season.

If he is who he is, he wouldn't have a great season.

Before saying this, I want it emphasize that I'm just a random yahoo on the internet with an opinion. I'm not a scout.
I just went back and watched highlights again just to make sure I still had the same opinion. The guy looks different to me in the pocket his first two season and his last two. Not his footwork/mechanics. His mannerisms just look different.
Not saying he was great his first two seasons either. He had problems then too.
Again though, I am not a scout.
I also think if were looking at finding a QB for next year, they wouldn't have traded for a good backup/borderline starter. That'll just give us a better chance at a lower draft pick.
I think they believe that they can fix him.
I didnt see what I wanted out of Mariota last night but I'm also just riding the season out to see what happens.
Wow, that little faith in Rusty.I think the last time I wasn't worried when a back up came in... was ODonnell/McNair
wait, scratch that.... Volek/McNair
Clearing the Decade mark with flying colors.
