Finally watch Mariota’ first drive. No clue what people are freaking out about here. He was fine. I saw one over throw and a throw away. His other two incompletions were the sideline catch that The wr didn’t get both feet down on (nothing wrong with the throw) and the fourth down play that could have been caught. In a real game we walk away with a field goal. Unreal how people here over react.
Nobody cares about the success of his drive against a vanilla defense sitting most of its starters. His passes have no zip, he locks onto one guy, he delivers balls late and misses opportunities for YAC or completions altogether like the sideline throw to Jennings . People would probably be making less of a deal if Tannehill didn't look much better in every way. Again, it's not the numbers, it's the arm strength, accuracy, pocket poise, decisiveness , and general consistency with his delivery in contrast to what we saw from Mariota on Thursday and the previous two years

I agree with this for the most part. Mary is still lobbing passes and throwing late and he has got to stop that chit.

Seen plenty of Mariota performances where this analysis is just wrong. His issues are consistency and injuries. He does not alway lock on to receivers, he has demonstrated pocket presence often, and he has plenty of arm to succeed in the league.

He's just as inconsistent in year 5 as his rookie year. This is his last year here.

Exactly. Mariota played poorly. Not sure how Vondy can't see that. I guess he has his head so far up Mariota rear he can't see the game.

Also, you can't win a debate by calling people names, only with better logic and reason. Calling Mariota's performance poor is a stretch. Trying to compare him to Tannehill given the same one series is rational, but this is also preseason week 1. Most of our offense wasn't playing and no one is game planning anything so how Mariota or Tanny did doesn't mean anything in terms of a QB controversy/competition.

Nice to see Tanny play well with some playing time. Let's see how everyone does over the next 3 weeks!

Reminds me of that time Mariota threw for 124 yards and........were actually on this site making threads and saying crap like SEE HE IS THE BEST EVER!

Please post this. Who said this based off one game where he threw 124 yards?

But who cares. If someone loves Mariota, why do you care so much about it that you need to insult them just because they disagree with you. Can you make an argument without personal attacks?

He is the better qb, because he is the better qb. He still isn't what I consider to be a "good" qb, but he is better than Mariota. None of this is based on last night, this is their careers.

Once again, listening to national sports shows, they trashed Mariota and praised Tannehill. Only people defending Mariota are the same 5 people who will go down to the last breath defending him.

Good news is, the same homers will be creaming all over themselves about the next starting qb we have and forget all about Mariota.

That's awesome you are a professional at evaluating QB's in different systems and styles. Fantastic! Who will be better...Tom Brady or Kyler Murray? Which of the young qb's (under 25) will be voted into the Hall of Fame? Who is winning Rookie of the Year? Please list this season's All-Pro players.

It's funny THill, at one time starter, goes up against 2's and 3's defensively and on top of it vanilla preseason defense and he should start? If he had the goods he'd still be in Miami. Hell Logan threw 2 TDs start him. Fantasy football has officially f***Ed with people's minds too stat driven now days.

Could be. I personally won’t say he is inconsistent in year five after the drive I saw from him. Think I will wait for a bit more evidence. Last year is hardly an indicator given his injuries. We will see if he puts it together this year

I can't understand ppl complaining that Mariota threw nearly all of his EIGHT freaking passes to one wr. Keep in mind two of the passes were designed to get the ball into Humphries hands. The other two were good reads that resulted in positive yardage and converting on 3rd down. Another one was essentially a throwaway. The 4th down play was the best option to get the first down without Mariota trying to use his legs to extend the play. I hate having to breakdown preseason so much because of knee jerk observations

I think it’s the fact that his eyes were fixed on Humphries the entire time that is scary atleast in my opinion. I don’t care if he only throws it to one person as long as the chains are moving, but he doesn’t scan the field he stares his target down the entire time

He's probably referring to the first jags game last year when Mariota came in for injured Gabbert, and won us the game with only 100 yards passing. But the fact of the matter is, we lose that game if not for Marcus coming in and making plays.

Maybe if gabbert hadn't gotten concussed the tingles might have actually healed at the beginning of the season... We'll never know.

They couldn't bench him after he played through it and won.

I am sorry, but this is just false. He definitely goes through his progressions...seen him do it all the time.

Are we still complaining about one drive in the first preseason game, when we were missing most of our starters?
