How did a which receiver should we start turn into bashing the qb?

We’re we assuming a 2 or 3 wr offense? If it’s 2...I start Davis and Hump and mix in AJ. If It’s 3 I start Davis and AJ on the outside and Hump in the slot. Sharp is not a #1 or #2 wr so I don’t start him unless I need to.

My 3 Receiving options are Davis Hump and Walker. We’ll get AJ and Taylor involved too but those are the four wr’s I play when everyone is healthy.

I would hope we develop AJ to the point where we can stay in 3 wr the majority of the time like the Rams do to give us more favorable run options.
What has aj done to essentially be gifted a starting spot? That's right, nothing. Not game one. Eventually, absolutely. Not game one though.

Played top level competition in college and produced at an early age. He was drafted in 2nd round. That's what he has done to earn a starting spot. You think Davis or Mariota did anything in the off season before ever stepping on nfl field to earn starting spot?

I don't see how you can't make the same, if not greater, argument against Sharpe.

He has been absolutely mediocre in the NFL, is that the signal you want to send?

They better be trotting AJ our there more each week to eventually take Sharpe’s spot. 2nd rounder with a ton of upside and can do more after the catch. Tajae is fine, but he hasn’t scored more than 2Td’s in a season and a max of 522 yards on a ton of targets. He’s fine for possession, but should he be a top 3? No. Anywhere else, he isn’t.

Sharpe isn't even a fine starter in my opinion. You basically have to hope defense just completely forget about him in zone coverages because if its man coverage he is getting locked up. I honestly feel like Sharpes talent/athletic ability is on par with a practice squad player. He is smart and doesn't make mistakes. That's what's gotten him by this far

Spot on. He puts in good work, smart, and runs clean routes with good hands. The problem is, he isn’t dynamic, slow, and doesn’t make big plays. He’s fine as a depth guy, but they need AJ to come on. I think he can make a huge difference if he starts balling out next to Davis and Hump.

As I said...he wouldn’t be starting him in 2 wr formations. That goes to Davis and Hump.

In 3 wr formations you have a choice. A wr who knows all the Routes and has solid hands but is not dynamic not fast and will not get better than he is now which is at best an avg 3rd wr. Or you take a guy who’s raw and may make a mistake here and there and hope his talent (big strong physical and dynamic) will make up for that while he develops. But the faster he develops...the more dynamic our offense becomes and the faster teams have a defensive mismatch problem. Plus as the 3rd wr we have plenty of other options for Mariota to throw to and feature until AJ learns the offense better and we call more plays specifically for him.

Lastly if you’re a team trying to beat the titans right now I’d load the box play man coverage bump and run and take my chances that Mariota can’t beat me over the top. The design of this offense is to combat this with play action max pro with 2 routes. Hard for Sharpe to beat man coverage. Other way are wr and rob screens to give the qb an easy throw and let your dynamic receiver beat soMeone one on one on the outside. This is the easiest way for us to attack teams loading the box. AJ will be a better blocker if he isn’t already and he’s a more dynamic wr. If we have Sharpe next to Hump then teams will double Hump and put their best CB on Davis with a S over the top and blitz on Walkers side to force him into pass pro or get a quick/short throw. That’s one example.

Tajae impossible to get better but year 5 Mary gonna turn into a real qb huh LOL

For all of you who want to start the raw rookie who missed 75% of camp, how does it make you feel that Sharpe just ran out the faster, quicker, more dynamic and explosive Taywan Taylor who also was a higher drafted and more highly invested player?

I don’t see anyone in here saying Sharpe is a better long term player, what I see are people advocating that he is a more polished, prepared and consistent player that Mary needs to start the season. AJ is gonna get plenty of run, but getting the opening day start isn’t the earned decision.

I said Sharpe, but that should only be for a game or 2 at most. And the only reason I say him is because he has exp, whereas AJ missed a lot of camp. He should still absolutely get a lot of snaps in these games. If it was me playing Madden where reps are irrelevant, it would be AJ no doubt.

Well...if you’re looking at the two. Tajae is pretty maxed out physically, route running and has good hands. His problem is he isn’t dynamic or explosive in his breaks so he has trouble beating man coverage...which is what teams are gonna throw at us a lot. Impossible for him to get better? Of course not. But two things can help him out. One would becoming more explosive in his breaks. At this stage that’s probably not gonna happen. The other thing is to manufacturer getting him open which can be done...but why do that for a less dynamic wr?

AJ needs more consistency polish and experience...but all of those should improve with experience. In the mean time he’s still more explosive and a mismatch nightmares due to his size/athleticism.

As for Mariota...he needs more consistency. Part of that is him improving his mechanics and staying healthy. Can he do that? Maybe. At least part of his mechanics issues is not trusting his shaky pass protection. The other part is him. Hopefully a more consistent run game...better pass pro...and better weapons will help him be more consistent. If not...his time here will be over and we’ll see what Tannehill can do.

Not a fan of starting him week 1 but that's what is likely to happen now that Taylor is gone. Hope they use Sharpe more though.

All Mariota has to do is play all season
