I don't really agree with your take fundamentally. Wilkins is NOT a power player. One of his few flaws is facing double teams. Simmons will stack your double team and keep your LB clean. Wilkins is not strong enough to stack at this point. He beats double teams by splitting them. He's a quick and shifty player who plays with great leverage, agility and angles. He doesn't really bull rush, he gets guys off balance and takes an angle on them and beats them. He's active against the run because he's hard to square up and just block. He's pretty good with his hands but his agility and shiftiness get guys off him because a lot of OL tend to lean.
Hiss length is a bit subpar...and that's always a concern...but he's not a guy who wins with length or power in college. He wins with his burst, agility, movement skills, hands and a high energy always on motor. It's also nice that Lawrence got more double teams freeing him up for more 1v1 situations (also freed up Ferrell).
Please. Double team wilkins all day. See how that works out with Casey on the same line.
He can help create havock, and between he and Casey, should be able to prevent QBs from stepping up, thus giving wake and Landry an extra second to get home.
Or feel free to float a hastily thrown duck and let byard and vacarro and the back end have a good chance at one.
This guy would make us better .
