pretty rare to hire a coordinator from outside the building in the middle of a season. it would be an internal promotionThe real question is will vrabel actually fire him? If so will they promote someone already on the staff to take his place? Or will they actually go get a legitimate offensive coordinator?
Let Vrabel call plays. The real question is will vrabel actually fire him? If so will they promote someone already on the staff to take his place? Or will they actually go get a legitimate offensive coordinator?
Good point, and who would it actually be if they did? Nobody comes to mind.pretty rare to hire a coordinator from outside the building in the middle of a season. it would be an internal promotion
gruden just got fired from washingtonGood point, and who would it actually be if they did? Nobody comes to mind.
Oh Sorry I should’ve specialities I meant at the end of the season. I’m pretty sure we’re stuck with Smith for the rest of the year.pretty rare to hire a coordinator from outside the building in the middle of a season. it would be an internal promotion
The job of the OC isn’t just calling the plays. He’s responsible for creating and installing the game plans and this scheme. He has done a terrible job of putting our teams best playmakers in a position to make plays. He has consistently shown a lack of awareness when it comes to exploiting our opponents weaknesses or even attempting to get favorable matchups.I'm not a huge Arthur Smith fan, but I can't blame him for all of the offensive woes. The number of times we are starting behind the chains because of self inflicted penalties is ridiculous...Our first 5 3rd downs were 3rd and 14, 19, 8, 19, and 15...it is pretty hard to look good calling plays when you are stuck in 3rd and long against a team that can get after the QB.
1st drive ---miss FG
2nd drive---- 1st and 25 from our own 11 move the ball out to 33 then shank punt
3rd drive--- 3 plays for 30yds then Lewis fumble
4th drive--- start at own 17 then INT on 2nd down should have been a catch
5th drive--- pass incomplete, tanny scramble for 2, pass incomplete
6th drive--- miss FG
So how much blame does Smith take for missing 2 FGs, fumbling, throwing an INT and starting off 1st and 25 at the 11.
If I was Smith I would be pissed as hell at the players for screwing things up and making him look bad.
Rightly so. I could be wrong, but I don’t think he designs any plays for individual players. He just throws random personnel on the field and runs a playbook that was handed to him. For example, having Kalif Raymond as your primary target on a crucial play late in the game yesterday....or throwing a fade route to Humphries in the end zone last week when you have 3 other receivers on the team that actually have the size to make that a mismatchBlaine on the radio destroyed Art saying "it baffles the mind why Arthur Smith isn't game planning to get his best players more involved". He then continued to rip him over his game plans, which I believe we all acknowledge as piles of hot chit.
I get what you’re saying, and I agree they hired Art because they could use the same verbiage and playbook that Mariota was familiar with instead of starting over once again. But what’s the point in maintaining consistency in an offense that Mariota clearly couldn’t run and wasn’t suited for?I cant fault the owner or the staff for hiring Arthur Smith. He was brought it to try and help MM with consistency. I blame the organization for not doing its due diligence in drafting a QB with the #2 pick who was not and will not be an NFL caliber QB. With that said, we invested money, time, man power to try and make it work, but instead has set this organization back. We were handcuffed in riding this wave for the full 5 years to see if MM would get better. Now I expect to let MM go, Arthur Smith will also be let go and we will bring in a great OC with a veteran QB and a rookie QB. I think our window to win the SB is about the open and will lasts for a few years because we have a young defense.
Um.. Slats are a great way to minimize the weakness of the offensive life, get the ball out quick, and avoid pressure. I'd love to see specifically which play you are referring to, but I'm willing to bet the real problem was execution, not play call.Have you seen the routes he's designed with our wrs?! It's terrible. I saw one play on 4th down where he had all wrs running a 5 yard slant into the middle of the field. And tanny got sacked turnover on downs
They’re 7-2, last year they were 6-9 so a pretty nice turn around and Rogers is a future HOF’r, what’s your point?Rodgers has already complained several times about their play calling. Rodgers killed it today didnt he lol
Everyone knows Rogers is the HC and OCThey’re 7-2, last year they were 6-9 so a pretty nice turn around and Rogers is a future HOF’r, what’s your point?
Fast forward this video below to 6:40 and you'll see what I'm talking about lmao. You sound to much like Vrabel. The issue is art smith, not Mariota not tanny. Mariota has proven he can win big games in this league against good teams. Heck we would have made it to 2 straight playoffs had they let him play week 17 last yearUm.. Frankly, I'd like to see more slats and 3 step drop plays.
They just got dominated by the chargers. Exactly how he coached us last year on offense. Sometimes great play calling and schemes for games then other games he was like a lost puppyThey’re 7-2, last year they were 6-9 so a pretty nice turn around and Rogers is a future HOF’r, what’s your point?
