Our next? We are still looking for our first.
Either way... only a FOOL would pay Mariota over 20mil a year, in fact, I think you have to be a moron to pay him half that. So yeah, If it is a choice between 20+ mil for Mariota, or 5mil for some new guy we draft at 19, I am taking the new guy. We know Mariota is a bust, time to move away from him.

Mariota hurt my feelings because we took him number 2 when he is like a 5th rounder. How do I want to "waste this great roster depth"? Mariota is not going to do anything with it, it is already being wasted.
If anything YOU want to waste this great roster depth on a project QB who has had years to show he sucks.

in this scenario mariota plays well and you still are trying to get rid of him... because your feelings are hurt. it's really as simple as that.

Mariota is the guy next year so I am hoping we don't have to move on again for a decade. Does he have a LOT to prove? Yes, and I don't think 1 season will be enough unless he explodes.
Mariota played poorly last year and we won 9 games, barely missing the playoffs and a couple games the refs didn't help. Some of you want to pretend like we are doomed before we even start. That's a very weak mentality unless you're bottom dwellers, which we are not. (Not saying thats you Rwill, but if anyone frequents Shoutbox, they know exactly what I am talking about)
We don't need him to be a top QB next season to have a good year. We just need him not to suck and put some points on the board. This roster looks good right now

First, leave the insults at home. There is NO PLACE for these kinds of lewd descriptions on this board. At least pretend to act civilized.
Second, if Mariota has a great year, you'd rather get rid of him and take a 2nd or 3rd round QB (the only thing available late in round 1 at QB) so we can HOPE to develop him in a few years?

Might be a Jennings or Sharpe type situation. We'll have to see where Jennings is at wr relative to everyone else and how good (and needed) his special teams play is. I believe Jennings led the league in kick return avg so that might keep his foot in the door...but keep in mind that the more talented the roster, the more difficult it is to be a fringe player and stay on the roster. I think we have about 9 wr's that I can think of (probably more) so it's gonna be tough for everyone not named CD or Humphries.

I would take Drew Lock or will grier at a cheap rookie deal over what we've seen of Mariota at 25 mil a year all day long.
Now hopefully next year we can find a better prospect than those. The new guy will be coming into a good situation, unlike what Mariota walked into.

You seem to think that RT had a chance to beat out Mariota and be our starter. If Mariota starts, in your opinion, does that mean Mariota beat him out or does that mean that RT was always brought here to be the backup?

Not this season, the FO has already made that plain with a public statement.
Btw, do you have to bring up your dislike for Mariota in EVERY thread? What's your opinion about Taylor?

I believe it’s more likely that Tannehill starts for Mary when he gets hurt again, and if he gets hot, they’ll ride the hot hand and let Mary recover etc...No question Mary is the starter, it’s just having a better backup and guy that can start multiple games with a better chance to win than we previously had....
