Titans draft pick Rashad Weaver charged with allegedly assaulting woman after argument

The incident that sparked the alleged assault started a few minutes before the punch reportedly happened. According to the police report, the same officers who found the woman in the street had separated her and Weaver at a bar while they were having a fight five minutes earlier. The details of the dispute are unknown, but the woman later told police that she'd thrown her drink on Weaver during the course of the argument.

that says they were there in the bar separating them 5 minutes before the "punch" happened.

As far as the "injuries consistent with a punch"

maybe it wasnt a punch, maybe it was more a heel of the palm slap to the side of the head. that doesnt leave a punch injury but it is certainly enough to knock a woman to the ground and give her a concussion.

really it will depend on the "witness". if the witness is a bystander who saw it happen, then he will be screwed. If it is a friend of the "victim" then he might have a chance.

She also could’ve been drunk and fell. You ever seen the videos of drunk girls trying to walk in high heels? Lol

First of all, no one has been arrested so changing the title of this thread until it happens.

Second, some of you wanting to trade or release Weaver before this plays out need to remember Simmons pled no contest to assaulting a woman caught on video and JRob drafted him knowing it.

The Titans will “investigate” this but will leave it to the authorities to handle. It’ll take months before it gets to court (if it ever does) and be quickly forgotten as long as Weaver is playing well.

Simmons did that when he was in high school and before he was 18 if I recall. And he was defending his sister who was in the middle of the fight with the girl and pulling her hair and wouldn't let go. That doesn't make what he did right, but it's far cry from what allegedly happened in this instance.

I for one take assault on women and children seriously. I want nothing to do with people that can commit those crimes. But, after seeing the witnesses reports and the police report it doesn't add up.

Pregnant woman out drinking at a bar, gets in a argument with a guy, then is seen on the ground (only one witness said otherwise), police show up and see no signs of a punch (from a nfl level athlete, that should be quite easy to spot), now charges are being filed.

This may all be true and weaver is a pos, but it just doesn't add up to me. Am I missing something?

She apparently didn't know she was pregnant. She didn't find out until she went to the hospital later.

Definitely differences but it’s just ironic that some people on here are throwing this kid to the side already when they were silent or defending Big Jeff just a couple years ago. It’s a far cry from what some on here have stated about this situation. Let’s get all the facts before we try and decide what side of the fence we are on.

The words he spoke to the cops are helping his case. And considering what we went through with Wilson last year, I don't think you could blame people for not wanting to commit to him, especially considering he's only a 4th rounder.

We have 1 year to sign him to a contract before we lose his rights. IMO, don't sign him to a contract till we have more info, even if that timeline bleeds into the start of the season. He wasn't likely to get a ton of action as the 3rd/4th option at Edge anyways.

Simmons hit that girl multiple times. You telling me a man his size couldn't have just grabbed her and pulled her off? It was inexcusable and as much a reason he slid in the draft as his injury.

The key word for now is "allegedly". I won't defend Weaver if he did this as I didn't Simmons.

But I've watched the NFL long enough to know teams mainly only give lip service to such incidents, claiming the need to wait for the legal process to play out before making any decisions. Months pass by and charges get reduced or dropped because someone is paid off.

No conviction? No reason to discipline the player. It's all but forgotten by fans if the player is helping the team win.

Media?
They play a big part but the general public is who exacerbates the problem.
Even in this thread you can see people that have already assumed guilt by blaming JRob for not knowing or already looking for ways to separate from weaver.

Personally, I don’t condone hitting women, but we’re only getting one side in every article so far. It’s very possible this woman had it coming and may not have been “hit” (punched, slapped, whatever) from weaver.
Some people tell their kids that if they’re getting bullied, make them stop, sometimes physically. We just don’t know nearly enough about what happened.

Agreed, but I think the media plays the overly largest part...... The media amplified the status quo of many, many trials over the last 30 to 40 years -- I can think of one key one where a certain glove didn't fit....

And in regards to the public -- you're right.... there's a certain quote from Men in Black 1 that sums up the entire realm of today's society:

"Why not tell people, I mean they're smart, they can handle it.."
"A PERSON IS SMART!.... People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it..."

There is literally video of Simmons doing what he did. This is just hearsay at the moment. Yet, people are having vastly different reactions to the situation. I love Jeffery Simmons and I loved the pick, by the way. In no way trying to bash Simmons here.

I get there is some PTSD from the Wilson saga but that’s not an excuse for hypocrisy. A lot of talk on here about people “not supporting any man who would hit a woman” but yet they do already with Simmons, technically. Probably gonna rile some people up but it’s the truth.

I have been pretty mad with my wife at times over the years, but my plan has mostly been to fake my own death instead of hitting her.

I totally forgot about what Simmons did and the video which is alot worse than Weaver...I think this will all amount to nothing...anyways he's innocent until proven guilty

Yeah it’s easy to forget because he’s been great for us. But ESPN even showed the video on draft night instead of talking about the pick lol

Hopefully the Weaver thing, first didn't happen and it blows over

I'm anxious to see what the new look D does...still concerned about the WR position but trust the guys picked play well.
If Evans plays well I hope we do extend him rather than lose another guy after declining the 5th year option..maybe they will move him around a bit

Again, not going to defend the actions of Simmons. But the scenarios are not similar. You're talking about a difference of 6 years in age. That is an adult vs a kid. A scenario where one was defending his family in a fight and a scenario where a is guy punching/throwing a woman to the ground for throwing a drink in his face (allegedly).

I'm all about due process and letting the truth come out. But if true, the outrage should be substantially higher on what he did, vs what Simmons did.

I hear ya. If Weaver comes out and helps solve our pass rush problems I’m sure many on here will forget this ever happened.

Only time will tell. I was excited about this pick so it’s definitely a bummer he’s already got some drama. But we’ve seen this go both ways in the past.

WR is a concern, sure but we don’t throw the ball a lot and I think we can get away with not having a ton of big name guys.

I remember a lot of people here coming out to say they would take Tyreke Hill if the Chiefs cut him

I just remember saying I would not visit or watch or support the Titans if they did and quite a few took exception to that and thought I was nuts (assuming the accusations were true) Same for kid beater Peterson

We dont know a lot of what happened here. His words to the cops about a man defending himself also makes it look a lot worse but in some situations, i could understand that mentality

That doesn't mean that you Ray Rice a woman that comes after you but since everyone is playing what ifs, here's one.

Outside arguing and she's is all in his face. He extends his arm to put distance between him and she trips. She falls down and gets a concussion

Thats a much different situation than him going out, punching her in the face, and giving her a concusison.

I would think that an athlete would be able to throw a hard enough punch, or even slap to leave a mark. From what I read, if accurate, police found no evidence of such a punch or slap

His comments about "a man can defend himself" just looks horrible after an accusation like this

I'm not defending or chastising him either way until we get more info.

In most cases, there is no reason to hit a woman. In the cases where I, personally, would all boil down to circumstances

In most cases, a man should be able to stop a woman but there's always those beasts. In high school, I knew a woman that id put my money on over a ton of the guys I knew.
