So I've made statements that range from wanting a primarily pocket passer in the draft to just signing FA QBs, instead.
Well, flipping through the radio the other day, I stopped at Fox Radio briefly and heard Colin Cowherd before I was about to flip again. But he said something that caught my attention... Athletic/dual-threat QBs aren't a fad. They're the future.
I vehemently disagreed... until I heard his reasoning. Then I agree with him, but for an almost entirely different reason.
Athletic QBs are becoming what the NCAA is "giving" the NFL. So, the "best" QBs out of college will, most likely, not be pro-style.
There's more to this, though... has anyone else seemed to notice or question the decline of the average Olineman? Finding quality blockers seems to be getting tougher and tougher.
An athletic, mobile, QB doesn't truly require a good Oline in college. And if there is a quality Olineman going into college, they may not even be coached up as much due to 2 things: 1 a program that is based on a more mobile QB 2 college programs getting by on their players just being more athletic or stronger than the others. Don't need to coach that... just need to get your school the wins!
I would argue - as I have a lot - that the quality of player coming out of college is far less refined/good.
So, a mobile/dual-threat QB is the future... because the NFL will have limited choice in the matter.
NCAA is not a farm league.
