Lewan Interview Key Points Today:
  • he's gonna release the supplement info when the test results come back
  • he got tested in april and passed but then in may he didnt pass, same supplements
  • supplements he was taking were for inflamation and brain health specifically
  • amount found in his system was too low to even gain the benefits of the illegal substance
  • used the nfl's provided documentation and tools to verify the supplements (apparently there is a 1-800 # and an app also to scan barcodes)
  • doesnt sound like he thinks he will get it reduced (although he will appeal), and doesnt plan to try to push it back a few weeks purposely with an appeal (although it could happen)
  • same supplement that was tainted for the clemson players last season
jon robinson also came on next and said lewan had documentation from the supplements

Seems like grounds to have the suspension reduced to me

Breaking news ... there was a mix up at the NFL drug testing lab. Lewans sample was mixed up with Andrew Luck. Luck will now be recieving the suspension

If the third party test results show that a supplement approved by the nfl contained it, you would think so. But they don't have to be held accountable for anything so it's unlikely

the way i understand it the nfl (and teams) dont "approve" supplements, they say "yep, you should be okay with this because it doesnt contain (whatever)". but if the next batch you get has trace amounts of (whatever) in it, say maybe that illegal supplement was run in the same machine in the batch before and wasnt thoroughly cleaned, you'd be fucked.

unless you are literally testing each individual batch you receive/use, you are susceptible. and they will actually do this but im sure it aint cheap.

NFL shouldn’t be suspending guys for trace amounts of substances

Not to downplay this, but PED's in football matter exponentially less than PED's in a sport like cycling. Obviously they're banned for many reasons in football, but someone on PED's isn't necessarily a better football player than someone not. They might run faster, and be stronger, but that doesn't mean they can be any more effective. There are so many players who aren't the strongest or fastest, but have better technique, are smarter, read quicker, etc to make them a better player. The one major bonus PED's can give in football is recovery time.

In cycling, your strength, speed, and recovery are directly related to how well you perform. The sport has such small margins between the leaders and those in the back. Not to say there aren't other skills, techniques, and tactics involved, but the physical portion is so much more directly related to success.

Dude, you are fooling your self if you don’t think bigger faster and stronger matters in football. I don’t really care about which sport it impacts more, but your logic as to why here seems flawed to me.

I'm not saying it doesn't matter, and I'm not saying players should be allowed to use PED's. All I'm saying is the reason that cycling bans people for 2 years and football for 4 weeks is that taking PED's doesn't automatically make you a better football player. It does make you a better cyclist though.

Its going to take Luck being suspended for us to beat him lolz

Nah, we were missing Casey, Ryan, MM and still had a chance to win at the end last year.

We can take the colts with a healthy team. They aren’t all that.

I do think it's hypocritical that they ban something for supposed health reasons when they are really concerned about performance advantages. Because when they do discover steroids that are healthy, then what are they going do.

They do give an advantage. It's obvious. Half of the MVP's and Cy Youngs in the 90's went to steroid users and the critics are like it doesn't help you hit a baseball. Really. Then why did over half of the awards and money go to award winners. In every sport it has been the same. The doped beat the clean handily. So to think it doesn't give you a significant advantage on the football field is being naïve in my opinion. Otherwise, they wouldn't be taking them. It helps with recovery and performance.

Think he did it. Lot's of excuses. The whole brain excuse seems all too convenient. We've heard all of this many times before like with Ryan Braun and the yellow jersey, and it's to save your image, your paycheck, and your legacy, but that's all gone because he did it and he got caught. If it were some kind of innocent oopsy then more players would be getting entrapped, and there simply aren't enough cases to prove that could be the case. He's in a small handful that got busted. All the signs and symptoms are there right down to the completely unexplainable acts of stupidity on the field.

Ok, now that is good logic.

So if Tannehill had been here last year we would have broken the Colts win streak.

The real problem with the "brain excuse" is that most of these supplements aren't tested in a proper clinical trial for any kind of efficacy or safety. It really is the wild west out there for this kind of stuff. The worse thing Congress did in this market was its complete deregulation since these companies don't have to prove anything and can claim virtually everything until they slap a disclaimer on the end. Any of you who listen to sports talk in Nashville on any of the stations hear about these supplements all the time in ads.

Would some work? Maybe? But once you get to complex issues like joint or brain health, I think you are pretty much flushing your money down the drain. Or worse, you are putting something in your body that could ultimately be harmful long term and not know it now.

In yesterday's interviews Lewan made it seem like his b-sample will be tainted as well since that test was administered from the same batch as the first one.

Sounds like that 4 game suspension is a definite

Having thought about this for a couple days I'm kinda of on the side thinking maybe he didnt know. He seems to have the entire team convinced, and the drug that was flagged is for bone density. He claims hes taking supplements for the brains benefits... Anyone who's had concussions should probably be on something that helps with brain health.
