The stat that stands out to me is the 31 more touchdowns that Steve. Considering how abysmal the team was under Whisenhunt and that he has been sacked almost twice as many times this speaks volumes. My takeaway on this is that Steve's teams during those first 4 years were building much like we are now. What are your thoughts?

Era's are different... offensive styles... quality of surroundings players...

Too many variables to compare, good or bad.

Pretty bad you have to compare him to a 1995 QB in a Jeff Fisher offense in order to make him look good

Well this could turn into a VY, Locker thread and the first 4 years of McNair. Mariota is better than all of them.

You could also add the guys never expected to be starter, mett, Collins, Hasselbeck, Fitzpatrick, Mauck, O’Donnell, who else am I missing that Mariota is better than?

Said it before, and I will say it again, most people here would have given up on McNair.

In todays league, probably so. But he also would have likely passed for a ton more yards and touchdowns with the rules are. His game would have translated very well to the systems used today.

Rules are not that different now. Most of the rule changes that liberalized passing happened in the early and mid 90s. It is not like we are talking about the 60s. The "Systems" are not that different either. Both are run first offenses that use TEs a lot.

McNair tougher, VY dumber.

Mariota serviceable, we’ll see this year if serviceable is worth keeping.

End of thread.

Donovan McNabb has better stats than Troy Aikman. McNabb is a surefire hall of famer, right?

Disagree strongly.
When Manning was beat by the Pats (again) in 2004, he cried and cried and cried that his WR couldn’t get open. The rules were changed for the next year and passing stats took off including QB juggernaut, Matt Stafford throwing for 5K a mark that hadn’t been reached since Marino torched the league in 84’ outside Brees in 08’, which he reached 3-4 more times.

Aikman was the reason the cowboys won 3 SB wasn’t he? Not like marginal - slightly above avg QBs get into the HoF ever.

That was only the most recent change.

I did not say all changes had been made in the 90s, just most were and they were more significant.
