Franchise Tammy no question. Half a season (after 6 fair to middling seasons) isn’t worthy of a long term contract at the modern QB rates (27-30 mil/yr.) Franchise him and see how he does with a larger sample size.

As for the price of QBs going up each year. The “big name” free agents this year are Winston, Mariota, Prescott and Bridgewater. I can’t see any of them raising the bar over 30 mil/yr. I actually see it plateauing there, especially after the Goff debacle.
Dak is very likely going to reset the QB market. Weve seen worse QBs push the number up, why not Dak...?

I say lock them both up as long as they aren’t asking crazy money. Forget dragging things out with the franchise tag, they have both been imperative to the way the Titans have been playing during our resurgence.

A few weeks ago I would have agreed but now all that “MVP” talk has gone to the wayside.
Despite my extreme disagreement with W/L being attributed to QBs, without wins, the MVP talk should be gone and that would have been a huge bargaining chip.

Well to win MVP your team has to win, they dont give it to losing teams.

Looking Historically you are absolutely correct and I don’t expect that to change anytime soon.

“Worst” team record with MVP
2012 10-6 Vikings - AP 2k
2000 10-6 rams - Faulk over 2400 offensive yards (record that CJ2K broke)
1997 9-7 Lions - sanders runs for 2k
1987 10-4-1 broncos Elway
1977 9-5 bears - Payton 1872 rush yds would have beat Dickerson’s record if 16 games.
1973 9-5 bills - Simpson 2k

I only specify the specifics to say anything less than 11-5 takes an extraordinary individual effort.

Prescott’s only hope to get back in the talk is to finish 4-0 with some monster games.

That said, without all that, I don’t think he breaks any QB contract records.

I see this unfolding similar to when the Niners paid Jimmy G. And because of crafty signing bonus Jimmy maxes out at around $27M

Going into negotiations Jimmy only had like 7 wins to his name, Tanny will end 2019 having a similar win percentage

I would take the position that delaying a deal with a franchise tag will be a bigger risk than it's worth. The next big QB deal, whether it's Prescott or whoever drives up the price and a franchise tag does not set up conditions for amicable negotians. RT and or his agent was always flexible in Miami, give a real offer and get the deal done.

I voted Tannehill because I want to see a full year of him staying healthy, and continuing to paplay at this level. In Miami he'd have good games, but nowhere near as consistent as he's been so far here. I want to know that's not a fluke. And it might not be, I'd say this is the most talented roster he's played on, and I really don't think it's close.

That said, I agree that a big deal now, looks fair a few years from now. You tag him, and it'll just cost more in the end. Should be continue playing well of course. If you tag him and he crashes to earth, you about the contract but are also in a shitty spot with no QB yet again.

Tag Tannehill and draft a QB to develop and sit a year. Extend Henry.
If Tannehill gets franchised or signed to a contract then why not let Tannehill become the franchise QB, hell hes a top 10 QB and he's ranked #1 in QBR. So why not give him a shot, we are 5-1 with him at the helm and to draft a QB just to replace him would be a bad idea cause you need to show faith in your QB.

6 games isnt nearly enough to make someone your franchise QB.

Among these final four games, I think Tanney will have to put the offense on his shoulders. How he does in that situation will tell us whether or not he's worthy of a huge deal (and it will be huge).

The tag is an option but I think the Titans would get a deal done if they think Tanney is the answer.

I wouldnt have a problem signing him for another 3-4 years and he doesnt have to be a franchise QB. We have a good roster to compete with him under center.
I'm now in the mode where I don't want to hear about drafting a QB... so many other needs we could get for less investment.

Since we became the Titans, think about how many years and money have been lost due to a drafted QB.

Just so done with it.

Build a great core... sign a decent QB in FA.

I'm there now.

1. No way Dak resets the market. Especially with a new coach coming in in Dallas who might want “his guy”. Dak has worse numbers this year than Goff had last year when he reset the market.

2. I don’t think Tanny would be pissed to get franchised. We gave him a chance and a chance to start. $28 million is a heck of a raise after his $7 million this year, plus Corey, AJ and Hump are all under contract next year. The best core of receivers he’s every played with.

3. Henry will get Zeke money, but that’s still not enough to make a major impact on the cap. Nature of the position.

4. Ryan has planted serious roots in Nashville and I believe really enjoys playing with this group under Pees. I don’t think he’d give us much of a discount, but I don’t think he’d move to a non contender for just a little more money. We definitely have a chance to resign him.

5. Conk might be gone unfortunately. Tackles just get paid ridiculous money these days and someone will pay him to be a LT.

In response to your talking points.

1. Dak fits into any scheme. The next coach will see Dak as an asset.

2. I think i read tanny can make up to 11M with incentives. Not sure who woukd foot the bill, us or Miami.

3. Henry isnt the same as Zek. Yes he will hit the market as the premier RB, but he isnt as polished as Zek. No one should out earn Zeks deal IMO.

As for Ryan vs Conk on who to keep. I think both will walk and get top dollar on the open market. But if we can keep one id say keep the Tackle. Oline is more important than the secondary.
