So I couldn't find the old cutting the cord thread so I'm having to remake it instead of being able to bump the old one. With the draft over with, there is now nothing on I care about watching on TV but my wife likes the typical chick flicks like This is Us and Grays, so with that said we are wanting to get rid of out Xfinity X1 as we simply don't watch enough of it (cable TV programming today is terrible) to warrant the $100 we pay for it. We will keep the Xfinity internet so here is my question, I have a brand new Roku smart TV and I'm trying to figure out what do I need to get to get the following:

1. Local Nashville News
2. NBC for Titans games on Sunday
3. The shows mentioned above that my wife likes

I've been browsing all the different apps but I cant come to a decision on which ones to get. Also, instead of my TV always running off the wireless internet, can I replace the X1 cable box with a router and run a wired connection to the TV or does Comcast have to program any router attached to their signal?

Any tips or advice are welcome.

None of the above. Get a digital antenna and get that stuff over the air. Streaming is for specialty content; not broadcast.

Ftr, your tv may already have a digital tuner in it, but sometimes an external is better for facing the repeater towers.

Antennas in the Nashville area aren't great because of the layout of the area.

Gotta discuss a non-antenna option here.

That said... buy an antenna to see if it will work for you where you are. If not, take it back - just verify you can do so.

Where do you live? Do you care about ESPN?

If you live in Tennessee, and don't care about having ESPN, just get an antenna, and then I'm sure between Netflix/Hulu/Kodi you can find all the content for your wife.

Edit

If you can't use an antenna, you can use YouTube TV. Comes with NBC Fox and CBS local stations, and ESPN. Also has a bunch of stations you already have with Comcast.

If you don't live in Tennessee, you can use YouTube TV and a VPN to get Nashville local TV.

I use YouTube TV with a VPN and cancel it after football season ends.

I tried the digital antenna at our house before we moved just down the road but further away from Nashville and it had a lot of snow and static with pictures coming through ever so often. I live in the Murfreesboro area and I only care about ESPN if its has a live Titans game on it. I quit watching Sports Center when it went to chit.

I lived in Murfreesboro and used one that worked great. Maybe it was not a good antenna?

Yeah, unless the antenna is high on a hill and there is little blocking it... weak signal.

Nashville area is bad for that since it's in a basin.

virtual protection network. It just hides your IP and location. It is great if you are doing something like using a jailbroke firestick or if you are in a different country and want to watch USA Netflix, or in USA and want to watch some other country Netflix.

Virtual Private Network.

It's like a PO box for hiding your "real" IP address online.

It could be used to hide activity online so you can't be traced, or you can use one to make it appear you are somewhere you are not. I use one that is based on a server in Nashville so TV services believe I am in Nashville and give me the local channels for Nashville.

My opinion...

Check that range map and figure out what antenna u need for your local channels. Probably want to get one that can go on the inside of your window on your highest floor.
