I really don't see any competition for WR2 unless Brown struggles to pick up the playbook. However I'm left wondering if Taywan can still be a valuable asset to this offense. I think once we come to terms with his limitations then I think he can be put in a role that best fits his abilities.

We already know he doesn't have consistent hands and prefers to body catch rather than catch away from his frame. That's largely why he has a small catch radius and struggles in contested catch situations. Its hard to bypass those issues. Those are major flaws that plagued the offense when he was penciled in as our WR2.

However he does have big play ability. Maybe now since we aren't asking him to be a volume receiver as our WR2 but perhaps we can get really good value with him as a depth slot wr behind Humphries. He is arguably our best go to receiver for WR screens. As long as we give him easy catch situations I think Taylor can still be of some value to this offense. What do you guys think?

Probably not

he can be our will fuller, with not as good hands. great at the streak, that's about it. definitely useful in the right spots.

Taywan can still be a factor, but we no longer have to depend on him to be one. Last year he was a giant among dwarfs. Hopefully the competition will bring out the best in him.

In what sense was he a giant

What’s he have like 7 catches?

If you consider 25 catches, 300 yards with 1 TD to be a "factor". I think there will be times where he has a decent game. I also think we will not make it through a whole season with CD, Humphries, and AJ all healthy. Somebody will miss some time at some point just based on averages for WR. He will be good depth for those times.

For sure his performance was underwhelming but our expectations were huge. After loosing Walter and then having Mathews walk out; I expected him to pick up the slack. Those guys were never replaced, who else was there to go with
Davis ?

Yes. We should just replicate Mariota's Oregon offense now . He would probably be better if we could stress secondaries and created busted coverages , instead of playing in a robotic passing game which doesn't allow any room for error.

Sure he can be a factor, he needs to get better and our qb play has to get better. No guarantee on any rookie wr and you need more than 3 sharpe could be the odd man odd or it looks like we could have 5 guys that can make plays.

If he does not get better J-ROB will just move on but the kid has talent and he could/can contribute but in defense of all of our wr's the qb play is not consistent or even available. Good news is this year we should at least have between the 2 qb's average to above average qb play. Surely each can last 8 games correct?

Taylor needs to get better, along with Mariota as well. That being said, they both missed on many opportunities last year. They didn’t have good timing, rhythms, etc. This seems to be a problem all around. No more excuses this year. AJ Brown, UDFA’s, Humphries, line fixed, Conk healthy, Walker healthy....Its now or never. I hope Taywan can contribute in some way.....

I wonder if we will see more 4 wide looks. Davis and Taylor outside, hump and brown in the slots. Can have either Lewis in the backfield or a te on the line.

I would think that's possible. Especially with walker coming back from a major injury. Jrob has invested a ton in the wrs corps.

Anyone who would complain about Taywan as the WR #4 isn't smart enough to acknowledge that Mariota is a well below average QB who knocks his supporting cast down a peg or two

I can also argue MM8 helped elevate DW into a pro bowler. Prior to MM8, DW was never mentioned by an media outlet as a top tight end.
