Ok, now you tell me which one we can get at either the end of the first round or the end of the 2nd round, that will come in and be a probowler next season.

I wont be holding my breath.
Pro bowl....lmao, don’t embrace the mediocrity of SOQFG

Considering the cost of draft picks, couldn’t you draft his replacement AND still keep him?
If the replacement is good, it’ll show and he’ll punch Casey out the door whether it’s this year or down the road when the rookie starts outperforming.
No! You don’t understand! Cut Casey, draft someone who is better than him (doesn’t matter which round), and do nothing with the $10M saved by cutting him. And, the defensive line will magically be better. So says SOAOG.

That's true, you just cant be too aggressive with that strategy like the Jags were when signing every big name free agent that was willing to play for them. You backload the contracts a bit, enough to account for the increase in cap that is to come, but if you overdo it, you handicap yourself a few years down the road.
True but there is more to it than that. You stagger the deals. You create ways out late in a contract. You take into account who you will have to pay down the line. It has to be an accountants night mare but if you do it right you can pay quite a few players good money. And if jrob keeps drafting like he has you can help keep ahead of the cap even better.

Last part depending on if they change the rookie contracts with the new cba.

And the $10M? As much as you think Casey is overrated, cutting him weakens the Dline. You have to replace him and address other areas of need. So, how would you do that?
Exactly we have 3 good dlinemen. Casey, Simmons, and jones. We have some decent rotation guys and we play a good deal of 2 line sets but cuting him is nuts. If they wanted to renegotiate him down 2-3mil I could see that. But he is still out best alll around DL.

Simmons and Jones are great against the run but are just ok rushing the qb. Casey and to a much lessser extent mack are the only decent pass rushers on the inside.

I am still waiting on one of the cut Casey people to tell me who we would be replacing him with. I am all in if we can find someone who can immediately fill in for him. But so far, I dont see who that is going to be.
Not that I want to but trading him would make 5000times more sense than cutting him. Even if we only got a 2nd or 3rd I could at least stomach it. But strait cutting him would be 12 and a half levels of fucking stupid. Hell the 9ers might give us a first. They have such a hard on for dl they might trade for him and start running a 5-3 alignment

That’s not embracing him. I’m all for replacing and upgrading but just cutting him is premature for the better replacement when we have the money to do both, allow him to keep playing until the replacement is better and find/develop the replacement.

While I know your distaste for his abilities compared to contract, but he still is pretty key on runnstopping.

JRob has shown he will let guys play out their contracts ....

Casey is most productive in a 4-3 scheme where he can use his quickness to shoot gaps...I wouldn’t be opposed to shifting to more 4-3 looks because I really like what I saw from Long when he got playing time at the end of the year....like the idea of Long,Evans and Brown on the field together...just tons of speed at the 2nd level ...stuff the middle with Simmons and Jones then let Casey come in for sure on passing downs....still need to find that Edge threat though

We lost the AFC Champ game because we couldn't get to QB.... EDGE

Yeah we need some pieces at G, CB, and QB..... but zero pass rush let head and shoulders stand in the pocket picking his hair...

I say we get a stud DT and cut Casey and his salary. He’s aging and it would create an inside force for years to come. Then we can go FA on outside pash rush....I think at #29 we can likely get a stud DT more so than a stud DE. Thoughts?

I am on this train as well. Now, who is this stud DT that is going to come in and instantly replace Casey?

We run so much 2-4 nickel it might as well be a 4-3 (4-2).

Agreed, plus cutting SOQFG is addition by subtraction
