are people going to stop watching because of 1 extra team in the playoffs and 1 extra week of games? definitely not. the league knows this and wants to cash in.
Yeah, but it waters down the product. Add too many teams to the playoffs and you get the NBA playoffs. No one watches the first couple rounds of that.

i agree that more teams in the playoffs is a turnoff for me. but with the addition of just 1 and 1 less bye, they didnt extend the playoffs by a week and its still not half the league that makes it.... this has to be the max though. we cant have half the damn teams making it

You kind of have 2 do it that way or it leads to very dumb bye systems.

Like 3 byes
Then 1 bye
Which would give the one seed 2 weeks off.

I like the idea of expanding playoffs to 1 extra team, cause half the time we miss out by 1 game.

I just cant see the players union accepting 17 reg season games tho

A by-product of taking away the 2nd place bye is the top teams will have more to play for in the final weeks of the season as they compete for the advantage of the only bye in the conference.

OR... one team will be way ahead and the teams all below will have nothing to play for making the last few weeks lame as hell

The NFL never listens to fans. They hear what they want to hear.

Fans: We don't like preseason. Let's have fewer games.

NFL: More regular season games!

The fuck?

It’s not a question really about causing people to stop watching by the 1 additional game, but I don’t see more people watching because of it either unless they start expanding to new international areas. That’s where I think they hurt their national crowd. I don’t mind Canada or Mexico City because they’re not 5+ time zones away.

Agree and basketball has both too many regular season games and too many playoff teams.

In general I agree. NFL has almost the ideal setup and some of the expansion ideas Goodell has are awful (I.e. a team in London).

they make billions every year. How can they not be content with being one of the most successful businesses out there? If anything, I see current expansion as a more likely gamble to cost viewers/money rather than gain. I would totally understand if there was an inclination of decline from the current profits, but expansion for the sake of expansion is a bad business move in my eyes.

Welcome to late stage capitalism. Expanding just for the sake of expanding. It's the American way. Quality be damned.

Do I want to trade a preseason game for a regular season game? Yes. Yes I do.

Do I want more playoff games? Um, yea. Sounds good.

The ****?

What fan says "Le'ts have fewer games"?

I don't see how 17 games works out fairly in regards to home vs away games unless one year you had the AFC teams all get an extra home game and then the next year all the NFC teams get the extra home game....in this fashion when time for playoffs no team would have an advantage compared to the other teams in their conference
