For those suggesting it is for the practice squad, Josh Johnson isn't a PS eligible player. This is for the active roster.

It is probably a "just in case someone calls" move.
 
I guess it’s a possibility. But I can’t fathom someone giving up draft capital for a player who’s last outing was a 63 yard, 2 interception game. Bringing in QB’s does make you raise your eyebrows, though.

we are just working guys out in the event of an injury. Last thing you want is RT to go down, then left with an injury prone Marcus.

At the very least they have his stats wrong.

IF it is true that the FO is making no attempts to trade Mariota than they are as stupid as many posters here accuse them of... Why would you not offload a player you absolutely will not be resigning during his last season? If you can get anything, you take it and move on.

The reality is no team is going to take on what is left of Mariota's $20 mil salary. He has negative value. We would have to give someone a pick to take him. So having him as the backup is a simple reality for now.

And who would you replace him with? Alex Tanney? Geez, people you need two QBs on a team that can help you win games.

Of course, Kapernick is still out there but I can't see them doing that because of stupid Presidential politics.
