The nice thing about restructuring to longer deals for our key guys is that you back load them to free up space now and make the dead cap hits go down on the back end so you can cut them if need be. Salary cap should be much higher in 3 years, so it would be a smart move to make some breathing room now.I'd throw the contract out there now while he's coming off a down season (hopefully not his norm). but wouldn't a 3 year $30 mil be the same thing as this year?
If they sign him to a 4 year deal or so, I'd hope they can get under the $9-10 mil a year mark.
I think he showed enough promise prior to this year to keep him around, just not at that price.
