Exactly, everyone knows that. But cards are all about cya (cover your ass)

You are looking at this from the wrong perspective, the receiver. Of course no one cares about getting the cards, but cards aren’t sold to them ... cards are sold to the giver.

From the giver perspective, it’s just enough to ensure the receiver can’t ***** about you forgetting about their birthday or whatever. Even they don’t like it, they can’t say anything about it.

It’s like the trump card. You both know what it means, but they are forced to recognize that you remembered them, no matter how ****** they feel about it.
I'm also looking at the industry itself... it's a con.

Little effort in coming up with the ideas for cards, but churn out mediocre product constantly on the cheap because it will get bought... because society has been programmed to think you have to buy them.

Incredible scam.

True, it is a great scam.

You could probably say that about a lot of industries really.

Nah the real scams are those "name a star" type of companies

Or time shares in Florida

You could... diamond industry.

Convinced people they are valuable and you must give them to the person you love. Really, though... only value is use in industrial work.

I honestly get mad when people buy me cards.

Here, I spent $5 on this paper with some stuff written on it that I did not write. I agree with it though.

I absolutely hate the amount of printed junk mail that appears in my mailbox daily. An utter waste. Pounds per week. Straight into the bin. If the millenials want to kill something off - kill that off. Cards can go with it.

How much did everyone spend on Mothers day cards?
Zero.

Unfortunately, my wife's birthday is coming up and she expects cards... even though she'll look at them once and never again.

She's brainwashed, sadly.

I regret to admit I too fell victim of this evil.

Bought my mother-in-law a card, my mom, and the wife

The wife and I are both pissed at the card industry for having the text usually include some reference about occasionally fighting or arguing. We don't do either of those things. Now I pretty much just have to find a card that doesn't say "sometimes you're a b***h but I love you" and I feel like I won the lottery.

No cards. I bought jewelry for my wife and my mom. Surprisingly they preferred the jewelry to some Hallmark crap.
