In the wake of the Lewan suspension - it had me thinking how good of trade the Dennis Kelly acquisition was. And with training camp nearly here - there’s time for one last random/pointless post.

Since 1997 Tennessee Oilers/Titans

Here are the top 5 deals that the Oilers/Titans made out like bandits on.

Looking back it’s apparent. The Titans own the Eagles when it comes to trading.

The honorable mention that did not crack the top 5.

Honorable Mention:

2017
Philadelphia receives 2 2017 Draft Picks RD 5 # 164 and RD 6 # 214 turned into Isaac Asiata and Elijah Qualls

Tennessee receives 2017 Draft Pick RD 5 # 155 turned into Jayon Brown

The List:

# 5

2016
Philadelphia receives 2016 Draft Pick RD 4 # 100 turned into Connor Cook

Tennessee receives DeMarco Murray

Tennessee receives Kevin Carter

#2

2005
Detroit receives 2005 Draft Pick RD 2 #37 turned into Shaun Cody

Tennessee receives RD 2 and RD 4 # 41 and # 113 turned into Michael Roos and David “Big Country” Stewart

1997
Atlanta receives Chris Chandler

Tennessee receives 2 draft picks in 1997. One was turned into Derrick Mason RD4 # 98

With trades there’s always ones you want back.

2015
Trading with New York - the G-men landed Landon Collins in the draft (whom was the #1 paid safety of all-time as of yesterday before Byard one upped him).

Titans moved back and got 3 players in the draft : DGB, Jalston Fowler and Tre McBride.

But the #1 worst trade in Tennessee history.

#1

1997
Kansas City receives 2 Draft Picks in 97 one was turned into Tony Gonzalez RD 1 #13

Tennessee receives 4 Draft Picks in 97 (including moving back a few spots off of Tony G) one was turned into Kenny Holmes RD 1 #18

So yes McNair “could” have been throwing to Tony Gonzalez and Randy Moss in the 90s ... well damn.

That’s enough to make almost anyone the GOAT.

Jesus that hurts lol

Kinda gives me a sour stomach even thinking of what could have been.

Imagine the Madden games. The Titans offense alone would have broke the game.

Reality. . we wouldn't have drafted either of those guys.

Frank Wycheck was on the roster , not sure if they knew what they had with Frank the Tank to pass on any TE that early. Honestly don’t even remember if Tony G was highly touted and talked up in the draft back in 97.

Yea, Roos and Stewart should definitely be #1.

Side note... I didn't realize Michael Roos was doubling up as an actor in Playmakers. And we never even tried him out at LB

Did we really win the Kevin Carter trade? I had to look him up, but Ryan Pickett ended up having a 14 season career as a solid run stuffing DT. We gave up a 1st rounder and Carter only got to 10 sacks once. And that was while playing opposite the Freak.

Reggie Wayne was drafted with the next pick and Chad Johnson was taken at the beginning of the second round. I don't know about this one. At least it shouldn't make the top 5.

gotta put the roos and stewart trade at #1 imo

No question, not one but 2 unheralded but beyond solid book end tackles to play together for 4-7 years and Roos, as solid as they come without being a hall of fame type but we never worried about the left side as long as he was there

That is a great list, nice work.

I will take issue with your number 1 worst trade. There is absolutely 0 chance the Oilers were going TE in the first round that year. Frank Wycheck was young and proving to have a ton of potential. Meanwhile, that year, we were desperate for DE. It was going to be a DE that year.
