Is this a problem or concern? Is it lack of motivation, lack of proper planning, or just the product of trying to establish a running game? Can we go good to great giving up an early lead in nearly every game?

Both. I think I read the Titans ranked next to last in this category with only the Texans having worse starts.

I don't know if it points to adjustments only happening at the half or what. You'd think that, after the failed first offensive drive, they should be able to adjust quicker.

I'm all for halftime adjustments. We have had coaching staffs that didn't even do that well, so this is great. But at this point, IMO, it seems like they are relying on adjustments in place of proper scouting, film review, and game planning for the 1st quarter. I have to wonder if we could be sitting at 9-5 or 10-4 right now if we didn't spot every opponent an early lead.

I wonder how many of our missed FGs happened in the 1st half....

I know against the Texans we should have had 10 points early but ended up with zillich.....can't blame that on coaching/play calling...we moved the ball

I’d say 13.

Blocked FG
INT on the GL
Fake punt called in FG range (for most teams)

The other thing is that the Titans slow starts are highly documented.
It has been a problem for more than just this year.

That adds to the mystery. Different coaches, different players, same story. Even now that we seem to have turned the corner on offense.

Nothing will change in the second to last game when it’s been a problem in almost every game all season.

Last 5 years (8-6, 3x 9-7, 3-13) it hasn’t been “same story” at least as far as scoring. I was also wrong in just assuming we’ve always had slow starts but this year we have and 2017. We also have scored the most points since 2016 with 2 games left. Also have our best pt differential in the past 5 years (probably longer didn’t keep going).

This is a breakdown by qtr the PF the titans have gotten.

2019 PF 339, PA 279, Net +60
1st qtr 48 pts
2nd qtr 70
3rd 96
4th 125

2018 PF 310, PA 303, Net +7
1st 76
2nd 58
3rd 69
4th 101
OT 6

2017 PF 334, PA 356, Net -22
1st 52
2nd 96
3rd 91
4th 85
OT 3
Postseason - 1-7, 2-3, 3-7, 4-19

2016 PF 381, PA 378, Net +3
1st 77
2nd 149
3rd 59
4th 96

2015 PF 299, PA 423, Net -124
1st 67
2nd 71
3rd 84
4th 71
OT 6

This season is a low 1st qtr output but an exceptionally high 4th qtr. we also have the best mix offensive/defensive as far as points go over the past 5 years.
Improvements in 3/4 qtrs scoring over last season.

We would be sitting at 10-4 if we could kick field goals.

In all fairness, we were trotting right down the field to score on our first drive.

True. But we had already given up an opening drive TD, again...

Edit, my bad, was thinking of a different game.

I think part of this is Henry's running style relies on wearing down on the defense. So the first quarter is a lot of body blows but no uppercuts and it leads to a lot of stalled drives, but by the late game it starts working.

Id put that on the OC

Art is conservative early in games

If we dont have turnovers our missed fieldgoals or slow starts arent bad. But when you mix those things in we struggle to win. Im still sick over our loss last week. Texans played a near mistake free game and won because of it.

How did the team that lost the turnover battle play a mistake free game, exactly?
