It really is an interesting concept... we showed a pass out of this formation against the Texans, but no doubt you could just have MM do a straight qb run as well and not put your real starting qb at risk of injury....also Tanny was a WR at A&M and so if they don’t respect him as a WR he could burn them

Will be interesting to see if we come with it again...

Yeah, I'm definitely thinking there was a reason they put this on tape vs Hou. Vrabel is planning some trickery
 
I'd prefer Mariota stay on the bench. Dude's bad luck.

Seriously though, we've been one of the hottest offenses in the league without his, umm.... talents. Any pass he throws is a pass that would've been better thrown by Tannehill. And honestly I'm not even convinced he's a better runner either. It's the playoffs so I'm not overly concerned about Tannehill getting injured on a run. It's do or die time.

Busting out some new "wrinkle" where Mariota could potentially throw the ball... in a playoff game... against a pissed off Patriots team... in Foxborough. IDK. I don't like it.
 
I sure didn't understand it. Tanny might have been a WR in college, but he's not as good as our 6th string WR on the team. A double pass is the only thing I can see developing from this formation.
 
Could just be as simple as a distraction that Pats have to spend time gameplanning for ... we may not even intend to use it

Let Mary do a 1 read. Henry at Wildcat. AJ or Jonnu at Wildcat. I'm in.

Vrabs showed that wrinkle last week to give the next team extra work. That’s it. We shouldn’t see it again.
 
There is definitely some value of having them both on the field at certain times, even if it's just as a decoy. This is the game we need to pull out all trickery, so I can definitely see us trying a play or two with both of them on the field at the same time.

Or hes just trying to waste Belichicks time

Either way, good idea to give New England something to think about..

Bad luck? He does have a playoff win, including the game winning TD catch! I saw we rub his feet for good luck.
 
He knows how Bill operates and showing him that is going to make them think/plan/worry about it at least to some degree that will detract from the actual gameplan at least a little. And he only had to run one play to accomplish that. Even if it's a micro advantage it was well worth it.
 
If I remember correctly, Vrabel called 1 play with Mariota.

That’s absolutely no different than a wildcat formation. We all know Henry is running from that position.
From that perspective, I’d say Mariota taking a snap is more effective because he can still throw (he did) or run.

If it’s just another play do BB to think about, great. Overall, this is much ado about nothing.
 
I love it. Mariota may be the fastest player on the team. Use his athletic ability. If for nothing else, distraction

Risky but totally worth it. Having them both on the field freezes a safety and opposite side corner. That alone significantly opens the second level for potential game busting runs by Henry. I'm not for running that set up more than 2 or 3 times a game- but damn imagine how it will F up the Pats secondary
 
The Ravens crushed the Pats .... they had several 11 play drives just grinding it out... I could easily see us run this same set and actually run out of it...thus keeping Tanny out of harms way...
