At some point the NFL will run out of old timers to hire...
Build a young coaching staff that can stick around together 5+ years and keep other young minds waiting in the wings for when they inevitably move on.

You know that at the end of the first half our defense only gave up two fields goals all season—the only TD was to Mahomes in our playoff game. And we only lost one game where we had the lead at half. All that to say there is a reason coaches run prevent defense and it is because it works a lot of the time.

It doesnt work in the absence of a pass rush. Our zone defense cant keep up with a bunch if track stars running circles around our guys while the QB fixes a sandwich waiting on them to get open.

It basically worked against every team this year except the chiefs, when we employed it. And I am pretty sure it wouldn’t have mattered what defense we played against the chiefs—they beat everything we tried. We were not going to stop them. We just had inadequate talent—that was not a scheme problem.

It works the other way too. We could've lost to KC the first time if not for the blocked FGA. Prevent D let Mahomes walk right down the field into FG range.

Crennel just got smoked by Mahomes, and were tryna beat Mahomes

lol man ... true statement though. It didn’t seem that long ago “we had to beat Peyton” ... that never worked too well. Hopefully beating Mahomes can come to fruition (in their defense, this squad is better than anything they had to beat Peyton , sans those early 2000s years)

This is KCs best chance at a super bowl. Once they give Mahomes his super deal and finish the (rumored before he got arrested) mega deal for Hill, they won't be the same team.

That being said, Mahomes, Hill, and a JV squad are probably still magic enough to win a lot of games.

I think a little more is being made of this than it really warrants, yes kc is going to give Mahomes a mega deal...but as long as they can keep Kelce and t.hill I believe they will be the same....I expect they will just cycle through new talent on rookie contracts for the other skilled and, sure to be fast players. Basically they will do the same as the colts did during the manning years.

No QB making over 25M has won a ring, just pointing that out

This dosn't mean much. If anyone can find players who took up 1/8 or more of cap space to win a superbowl is what we need to look at.
Youre right, it means nothing today. Players have only recently started making north of 25M/yr. But when the sample size is 6,7,10 yrs long we can start to wonder how much these monster deals handicap teams.

Tom Brady and Drew Brees have been known to give money back for other players.

Except at that point the guys that aren't old timers now, will be. That's how age works;)

O ya I get this, the use to call manning the bank of indy or some shit like that. I am just headed to work in a few and this would take some time to compile data for. Was just curious myself not saying you were wrong.

So both examples are from KC, the best offense in the league. They would have gotten into field goal range regardless. The strategy worked for most teams this year—that is the point.

I'm talking about the old timers that are literally 70+ years old that have been around in the NFL for 50 years.

It usually takes longer than 5 years for someone in their 30s-40s, even 50s to reach 70...

Glennon saying Tyrone McKenzie is leaving the Titans for the same job with another team. This leaves Bowen all alone.
