Remember the Richard Matheson Twilight Zone where the gambler won every hand? He was in hell..
Remember it takes some bad seasons to appreciate the good ones...

Well OK this is THREE bad seasons now and this is the real hell!

Rolltide

Gunny is one of the few people on the board that's trying to stay positive. He doesn't stoop to personal attacks on board members who don't agree with his opinion either.

How'd that irony stuff work out for you? Went a bit quiet for a while didn't you Roll, thought we'd lost you :moon2:

You are welcome to leave Roll. No one is forcing you to be a fan.

Seems like Gunny is the one with the "personal" attack. Asking a poster to leave because they state their opinion is ridiculous. The players and coaches are fair game for attacks but not posters IMO. Bashing Fisher is no different than bashing Bennett for his drops or the continuous bashing of Brown because he can't stay healthy. Still the comeback if a poster doesn't agree should state reasons outside of asking the poster to leave.

be fair now. Do not run to rescue RollTide then take a blind eye to the attacks he has made on Gunny. Both are slinging mud.

Gunny...

Disagreement with you is like a stick of butter fighting with a buzz saw. What is your lame point anyway?

Your opinion on this matter would be greatly appreciated but i doubt you summon up the courage to have one. Very much like gunny i'm afraid to say.

What you don't see is that both your glasses are at the same level. Half empty or half full you are both Titans fans.

Bennett should have said, "Don't let my stats fool you. You can pin this loss on me. The drop on the opening drive was huge. We had a great drive going until I screwed it up. My effort on the deep sideline pass that was intercepted by someone three feet shorter than me was a disgrace. I'm embarrassed by my continued inconsistancy"
"I need to do my part by catching every pass that is thrown my way. I dropped a big one early on. I thought about it last night and today when we were watching the film review. But during the game, you have to let it go. If you dwell on it, you’re going to drop another one. It’s frustrating, and it’s something I’ll have to work on this week. I think too many people are making Kerry Collins the scapegoat for our loss"

Close enough.

I know that I have "personally attacked" a poster on this forum recently, but I apologize. They have about as much to do with the direction of this team that I do. Say what you want about me, but I still think that the right thing to do would have been to start Volek Sunday and maybe the next two weeks until Collins learns all of his wide receiver's names and the playbook. It's clear that Fisher has screwed up the Volek led team that they have worked on throughout the off-season. Now he has screwed up the first game by starting an experienced vet that is extremely inexperienced with this team. Yes, Collins made some good passes the other day and with the help of the run game scored a TD. I do believe that Volek could have done better with 6 years of team experience. I am tired of talking about this subject over and over again, but only half can see what could have been with Volek and the other half want to give the first half of the season to a learning QB and let the losses fall where they may. If Collins goes into this Sunday's game and tears up the Chargers defense with bullet passes and a laser arm, so be it. I will be glad for the Titans. I will finally get to cheer at the end of the game. Then, they had better trade Volek or let him find a team elsewhere through free agency. After treating him like they did, it makes no sense to hold on to him...

Sorry to do this to you RT but you have slung some hate at some people and no one but me seems to remember this post. I was bashing Collins for good or bad and you came back at me with this:

Why #9?

We got collins as a stop gap backup in case volek goes down. The raiders got him as their franchise QB.

He came a lot cheaper for us then he did for them. We almost got him for nothing.

We got a backup QB who has started 150 nfl games. What the hell? He has more career TDs than ints and actually made a pro bowl once and led a team to a super bowl.

He has playoff experience and actually won more games than he lost in the post season.

It's all a matter of perspective. As a starter he is maybe the 25th-30th best QB but he is one of the better backups. We are paying chump change and didn't give up anything for him.

Good move...

which is it? Or did that first appearance make it obvious why he sucks?

Group hug !!! Everything will be alright and the team will make a comeback. I know this is true cuz Fish said it.

I did briefly feel sorry for Collins when he was getting booed, and the
Volek!Volek!Volek! chants were being sung...after he was intercepted...

Was that the INT that Bennett gave up on or the other one? I really don't have a problem with people booing. Aside from the fact, that they look like jack-asses and all it really does is make your team play worse, I think it's great. Keep it up Volek fans!!! Some of these people act like Fisher is benching Terry Bradshaw or something! It's freaking Billy Volek people! Get over it! He's never been starting materiel and he still isn't.

It is all about getting a WIN! People would have cheered madly if Collins had gotten the win. But unfortunately for him, he didn't and he looked bad.

Most of the fans chanting Volek would have immediately become Collins fans after the first series if he had not have looked so rusty and confused.

It doesn't help when guys like Bennett, Troupe, and Brown are dropping everything...
Maybe they're dropping Collins passes because they're not used to his throws.

That's what camps and preseason is do, let the recievers get used to the type of ball the QB throws, his speed, english, etc.

Fisher deserves the boo's, for making our season opener a preseason game for Collins and the receivers to work on their timing, INSTEAD of putting the best QB in to give us a chance to win.

No it doesn't. Even worse, it doesn't help Collins' case when he comes in with only 3 weeks to work out some rapport and he is thrown in front of 65,000 fans that haven't seen over 3 home wins in a year.

I noticed a couple of the drops players looking at there hands and then back at Collins like they were not expecting so much mustard on the ball or something. I think with Volek we probably would have been in the game and would have scored before the 4th.

The timing was my main concern. It just seems like in the future analysts will use our team as an example of what not to do to motivate a team to win. Players are coming out to defend Collins but less then a week ago they were asking Volek "are they really doing this to you?". And Fisher is out saying we are not here to play to Voleks feelings we are here to win. Did he really think that Collins with that little practice was our best chance to win. The entire situation is mind boggling.

What did you expect? You were one of many people bashing Volek because he "supposedly" had a poor preseason and how the Titans always suck when Volek is the starting QB. Now that Collins starts and looks bad, suddenly it's the fault of the OL, players dropping passes, no running game and the inability of the D to stop the pass. It's almost as if the Titans didn't have any of these problems until the minute poor Collins started the game. Give me a break. McNair faced the same issues last year and so did Volek in preseason, but I guess it was easier to simply say that Volek sucked and blame everything on him.

Collins looked lost and slow out there. He had the same expression Neo had when Morpheus explained him what the Matrix was. He will probably improve with more practice time, but it was simply a bad coaching move to start a washed up QB that had less than two weeks of practice. Don't be discourage, though, it will probably be much worse this sunday.

Forget about the pre-season then... What about last year? and the year before that? and before that? Keep on going.... I was simply stating what I and everybody else saw on Sunday. Volek has been bad for years not just this year. Remember the Bengals at home last year? What about the Arizona game..... He's always been bad. Sure Collins is going to face some of the same problems that Volek did. Let's face it, our team isn't very good.
I still don't think Volek would've have done as well as Collins. Volek is a choker. He's choked in almost every close game he's ever been in as a pro. I wouldn't look for things to change any time soon.

He looked lost after Bennett let that goose egg go between his hands while going across the middle. As did I.

Timing and being used to the QBs passes...anyone remember Volek to Jones against Green Bay....hey im not all against collins, but clearly he wasnt quite 100% comfotable in our offense and with his recievers, i would have put Volek in and see what he could do for us...and then when we were by the goal line put Vince in...who knows but thats just my opinion...and hey guys can't we all just get along?! We're fellow Titans fans and if you aren't a fan im sure you're welcome here just dont bash other members...and if you arent a fan i dont know why you would be here anyway but hey who knows
