This.
Allowing Arthur Smith to be OC only to prop up Mariota with “continuity” was a desperate “hack” move by JRob.
Vrabel is a Defensive minded player coach. A 3rd grader would know that getting an EXPERIENCED OC was paramount for success. This offense has talent but plays desperate and without discipline because our scheme and play calling is an embarrassment. And Vrabel knows it and tries to compensate with overly aggressive moves.
I still think Vrabel is good HC material. He’s only in his 2nd year. We need to stay the course with him but seek an experienced OC next year. It was stupid to think a HC with 1 year experience and a rookie OC could produce a successful offense. And that’s on JRob and Amy.
I honestly quit watching in the second quarter- flipped to the Colts Steelers. Watching these Titans makes me apoplectic.
The problem is, who we gonna get to be oc? Anyone experienced with anything close to a proven track record is not going to want to take a slot under Vrabel.
So that would require us to identify and hire a young up and Comer. We utterly suck at that. And even if he were successful at finding and luring one, and he was successful, he's promptly bail and be a head coach somewhere, because every team in the league but us wants an offensive guru coach.
As for Vrabel... Is the defense him or pees? Eventually, pees will re-retire. Then we will see if Vrabel can do it alone.
It wasn't a good hire. I'd hope we fix it when we draft our next qb... But we won't.
