OwnersWhere should the money go? I mean, the NFL makes billions, that money has to go somewhere. If not the players, who should get paid?

you dont understand capitalism LOLOwners
You have to be a complete idiot to think anyone is worth 30 mil a year just because the company is making billions
So, owners need to be capped at $29 million a year? I mean, you’d have to be a complete idiot to think anyone is worth $30 million a year just because the company is making billions.Owners

EXACTLYThat being said, taxpayers should not be involved at all when it comes to stadiums, etc.
They negotiate salary caps.Where should the money go? I mean, the NFL makes billions, that money has to go somewhere. If not the players, who should get paid?
Wtf are you talking about? So, owners need to be capped at $29 million a year? I mean, you’d have to be a complete idiot to think anyone is worth $30 million a year just because the company is making billions.
Disagree in bold. How many starting caliber QBs would you say are in the NFL? I’d argue it’s def less than 32. Let’s go with 20 to keep it even.
There are 20 starting caliber QBs in the NFL, who play the game at the highest level. That means there are only 20 people in the entire world that can do what they do, and do it well. In almost any line of work, if you are one of the 20 best in the world, you’re going to make top dollar.
Not only that, but the NFL made 18 BILLION dollars in revenue last year. If you want to put that into perspective, 1 million seconds is 12 days. 1 billion seconds is 31 years. In other words they make a LOT of money.
So that begs the question – why? Why does the league make so much? It is because people love to watch these players, play the game at the highest level and watching these players do so brings in revenue.
The players are why there is a game to begin with, and are the main reason the NFL brings in so much money. And given the risk to their bodies the players put themselves through and the fact they are what draws eyeballs to TV screens and put butts in seats, no, they’re NOT overpaid. Anyone who doesn’t get that, doesn’t understand basic economics.
No, I get all this. I’m just saying, the players are getting what they are worth. Not over or under paid. It’s how capitalism works. They will continue to push for more money as the NFL keeps making billions. The owners are making plenty too. They negotiate salary caps.
If the limited salary cap is preventing star players from getting contracts because teams can’t afford them, either the cap needs raised, or players should be smart enough to negotiate within the realm of team affordability. Not just good for their team, but the future of their position.
RB are currently complaining they can’t get paid.
QBs are known to negotiate contracts that can eat huge amounts of salary cap.
it’s either on players to negotiate so the team can still sign the best players (also the interest of GM/owners)
Or players go for everything they think they can get at the risk of not being signed entirely (ie RB currently).
The owners should also be eating the horribly managed teams like Jax and Cle for over paying marginal players which “resets” the market for better players.
Well, that’s a matter of perspective. I’d say athletes are paid what they are worth. Owners make what they are worth. That’s how capitalism works.Wtf are you talking about?
Athletes are overpaid.
That being said, taxpayers should not be involved at all when it comes to stadiums, etc.
Something else to consider: when taxpayer dollars help pay for a stadium, the city (or county) receives a portion of all profits from anything that happens at the stadium. If an owner builds a stadium outright, that owner receives everything and the city gets nothing except ancillary monies from taxes on goods. These stadiums are huge money draws for the cities they're in. They host concerts, festivals, other sporting events, etc etc. NFL teams have games 8-9 times a year in their stadiums... There's actually more that goes on in those stadiums that isn't related to football than related to football.
Cities give huge tax breaks and incentives for corporations to move in to their area and create jobs and commerce. It's no different for NFL teams.
I agree it sounds pretty crazy for the public to pay for stadiums but it's not a new concept for cities to cater to the rich for their benefit.
I think there is fair argument when we all know what their comparatives are making. No, I get all this. I’m just saying, the players are getting what they are worth. Not over or under paid. Anyway, I just don’t get why some fans complain about players’ salaries or complain about players complaining about their salaries. What an NFL player makes has little to no affect on any fan’s life.
I get what your saying, but i still don’t agree with the concept. Local governments have also seized private property for tax revenue (generations of family owned property stolen and given to private company to build townhouses)- SCOTUS upheld that terrible decision not so long ago. There are many people whose dollars are seized that don’t give a rats ass about festivals, concerts, and the like. Curious if any of these tax revenues were voted on by the people prior to it happening. My guess is no.These stadiums are huge money draws for the cities they're in. I agree a lot of people don't care about the festivities but they probably care about the jobs, tax revenue etc these places create.I get what your saying, but i still don’t agree with the concept. I know what I would like but it will never happen and it shouldn’tWhere should the money go? I mean, the NFL makes billions, that money has to go somewhere. If not the players, who should get paid?
