Welcome To The HFBM Boards
Hockey, Football, Baseball & MMA

Sorry everyone, was just curious so I did another one of my deep dives, extrapolate from it what you will;

Munchak was our O-line coach from 1997 thru 2010, when we mistakenly made him our HC. A huge mistake for several reasons, but I digress. Now I know we had a number of free agent pickups on the OL during this time, but I wanted to again go thru our draft picks during his tenure to see what the context was for why he was so highly regarded vs what we have today. So, by year;

1997
Scott Sanderson - 3rd (Meh)

1998
Benji Olson - 5th (Started 140 games)
Kevin Long - 7th (Meh, started 35 games)

1999
Zach Piller - 7th (Started 58 games)

2000
Wes Shivers - 7th (Meh)

2001
Adam Haayer - 6th (Meh)

2002
Justin Hartwig - 6th (Started 95 games)

2003
Todd Williams - 7th (Meh)

2004
Jacob Bell - 5th (Started 100 games)
Eugene Amano - 7th (Started 68 games)... really? Huh...

2005
Michael Roos - 2nd (Started 148 games, Pro Bowler)
David Stewart - 4th (Started 116 games)
Daniel Loper - 5th (Meh)

2007
Leroy Harris - 4th (Started 42 games)
Mike Otto - 7th (Meh)

2009
Troy Kropog - 4th (Meh)
Ryan Durand - 7th (Meh)

So from 97 to 2010, the highest drafted Off lineman was Michael Roos, a 2nd rounder, who was a cornerstone at LT for 9 years (he only started 5 games during his 10th and final year). Olson, Long, Piller, Hartwig, Bell, Amano, Stewart, and Harris were all multi-year starters. And not one of them was a first round pick. This is the difference between what we had then vs what we have now - competent coaching. I know that Fisher isn't exactly beloved here any more and I'm absolutely NOT calling to bring him back, all I'm saying is remember back when we could pick a WR in the 4th round and watch him become Derrick Mason? Remember when we could pick a DE in the 7th round and watch him become Carlos Hall? How about a Robaire Smith in the 6th round? A Justin McCareins in the 4th? Bo Scaife in the 6th? Or geez, what about even a Courtland Finnegan in the 7th round???

People keep saying JRob! and that no one could win with this OL, and while I don't actually know if that's true, what I do know is that our CURRENT staff can't win with this OL. Again, with a competent coach like Munch or a Russ Grimm, or a Bob Young back in the day, who knows? The way I see it, it doesn't matter who JRob drafted b/c this staff simply cannot develop young players.

Treylon Burks caught 41 passes last year. This year? 8.
Chig caught 59 passes for 650 yards and 3 TDs last year. This year? 27, 200, 0.
Roger McCreary looked better last year than this year.
NPF looked better last year than this year.
Kyle Phillips does look better this year than last, to be fair. But he's just one banana peel away from missing half a season.

Does Elijah Molden? Does Rashad Weaver? Does Kristian Fulton? Is Amani Hooker significantly better now over last season?
Great breakdown.

Id argue that the fisher complaints were rarely about ability to develop players or select asst coaches but the gutless way he wouldn’t go for the wins but go for the attempt of not losing.

another solid breakdown of what can be considered regression for some of the recent picks. Philips playing makes him better than last year by default.

For a long time people have argued that teams can get productive OL in later rounds because of what a Fisher could do.
contrary, we’ve seen some generational talents selected in the first round (not in TN but elsewhere). Joe Thomas, Orlando Pace, Tony Bosselli, Eric fisher, etc.

I hope to see OL taken next year if it’s not addressed via FA. Right now I see need for LT, C, and RT. The current roster pretty much has Skoronski and a bunch of depth guys or worse. maybe with another talented guy or 2, even the weaker guys improve. Maybe if that’s true, titans don’t need 3-4 OL but only the 2 listed.

Nobody can eat 50 eggs!
Excellent movie- i was surprised to see that the record Joey Chestnut set at 141 hardboiled eggs in 8 minutes… that’s vagina vs Cool Hand Luke’s 50 in one minute! Interesting that during filming, the eggs were actually eaten, mostly by the actors as it happened… Newman knocked down 8 in the scene.

That video of Dillard standing still as our QB gets sacked is hilarious! I ain't sure I have ever seent a man get beat that badly on a play. Almost looked like it wasn't real!
Sad, he was a high pick for Philly...I was hoping he would help the OL
He gets beat like he stole something!

Joey Chestnut? He was our RB of the future wasn't he??

Sankey... generic as F a RB that ever took a snap in NFL

zero special about him

started multiple seasons

Multiple?
Thought he had 1, then superstar Mr Fit, UDFA Antonio Andrews passed him on the depth chart.

Edit: and Andrews was like a worse version of Lenwhale White

2 years... started in both BUT thankfully not 16 games each season

not sure if the JAG got 16 starts combined... regardless should not have made a roster

It still infuriates me that we aren't giving Skoronski a chance to play LT. I don't care if he didn't get reps there during training camp... he has played plenty of LT in the past to be able to quickly get up to speed.

If you draft a guy as high as Skoronski then that guy has got to have some sort of position flexibilty

Worse case scenario is that he shows that we indeed need to draft a LT high in the draft next yr.

Best case scenario is that he shows he can be our LT of the future.

Give the kid a chance.... he can't be worse than Dillard

Been doing a little digging into Tim Kelly and his OC history. It looks like his blocking schemes, especially in the run game, just don’t work. He made Tunsil look like a bum in Houston. We’ve gone away from the wide zone scheme that Art had so much success with. Man, this team is a mess.

I was thinking this exact thing but couldn’t be bothered to research it. I think our OL scheme is making our subpar talent look even worse than they really are.
