TitanJeff said:It appears that the Titans can continue down the path to letting McNair play out this season and choose to redo the contract well after the draft. This opens a lot of options, IMO. If they take Young, they could then sign McNair for two seasons. If it is Leinart, then you do a one-year deal or simply let him go and let Volek start the season. If the Titans trade out, they can sign McNair for a longer deal.
There won't be a lot of openings for QB after the draft. The longer Reese stretches this out, the more this stacks up for him.
It definitely means we're not exercising the 50 mil option, :winker: :lol:GoTitans3801 said:So does that mean that at this point we're doing the 1 million option?
The luxery here is that Young would be in minicamps, through a training camp and a pre-season before anything has to be done with McNair if I understand correctly that this bonus is not paid until the start of the regular season.Soxcat said:I don't think Young is ready to start right out of the shute but this idea of having him sit two years makes no sense to me. Young played major college ball against major competion for three years. His situation is not the same as it was for McNair when he came out. Young may take some lumps the first year he starts but waitiing two years behind an aging and diminished McNair would cause more problems IMO. We could easily have our better QB on the bench.
RollTide said:Everytime someone does something wrong you have some lame excuse. We signed this deal with mcnair and what has he done sense? He's not even a top 10 QB any more.
We go back to this mentality that you and others have on this board that the titans were so damn good for so damn long we can't help but suck. We just couldn't afford to pay all those incredible players. So we sign a deal with mcnair that will be lighter on the cap for 2004 and 2005 and what do we get for that? We stilll lose most of our best players. That back loaded deal which is costing us now when mcnair isn't as good. Didn't reese consider that steve mcnair might not be as good a player in 2006 that he was in 2003?
As far as guarenteed money is concerned mcnair got a large signing bonus, his salary for 2006 will be $9M and his other bonus costs us over $8M against the cap. It's guarenteed if he is simply on the team.
How can you defend the fact it will cost us $13M against the cap even if he isn't on the team? We tell him to take a hike and it's still like paying a pro bowl offensive tackle.
:baghead: yeah whatever, never a valid post :makefun:Soxcat said::drunk:
