For sure, not cause a below average qb tho
Don't get it twisted I'm done with Mariota and feel JR needs to give up all draft picks to get the top pick and draft the best QB. This roster is very solid, a top 10 QBcould compete for a Super Bowl with this roster IMO.

Is our roster really that good? We’re solid but I don’t see it . We lack star power big time . Mariota as much as his stats suck and I’m cool replacing him for something better , has been one of the few that step up like a real playmaker in key moments . Other dudes on our team haven’t shown that plus our pass rush and o line leave much to be desired. What are dudes smoking ? I need that . Game starts in trenches . Only thing kinda elite is the linebackers and we don’t even have a Bobby Wagner or a Kuechley

3rd tier

My rating scale:
Tier 1: Pro Bowl level, truly elite
Tier 2: Solid starter who consistently leads to victories, perennial playoffs.
Tier 3: A guy who shows flashes and has a couple good games each year.
Tier 4: Solid backup

Based off “wins” or at least “winning ability”?

Philip Rivers seems like one of those primary QBs who break this system of rating. In 13 years as starter, 6 playoff trips, is that a “perennial playoff” QB? That also means he doesn’t “consistently lead to victories”. So he’d be a tier 3 guy?

Wins is not a QB stat. The team around them has a large effect on wins. Too large to just out wins and losses on the QB.

This is true. As much as I want to say our team is good, O line is still an issue and our pass rush isn't lighting up the stat sheet with sacks. We don't have shut down corners but we do have a good safety.

“Against QBs like him, I tell my guys, ‘If we make them drive the length of the field, they’ll f— it up.’”

“He is like Lamar Jackson to me,” a secondary coach said. “The guy could be good if they have a really good defense and they run the ball. If one of those components is not there and he has to start throwing the ball, he can’t.”

Coaches and execs around the league ranked him 26th , bottom of 3rd tier per their criteria and 4th per this criteria.

I’m a Mariota guy but up to this point I would have to agree with this . Praying he proves me wrong .A lot of it is the O line tho , if Marcus is protected he gets it done.

He's been one of worst QBs in the league in a clean pocket. That's when most of his INTs have occurred. I wish people would do some research prior to speaking.

Yeah well let him run then or let’s use only 3 Olineman and assure he doesn’t have a clean pocket and we win according to your logic . Wish people would use their brain and or common sense.

That was irrational.

"He struggles from a clean pocket."

"WELL THEN WHY EVEN PROTECT HIM AT ALL?!!"

Feels like an argument that I'd have with my mom back in middle school.

This is not a Mariota slander thread so please do not delete it or merge it. I just want to ask everyone what tier QB they predict Mariota will be at the end of the season, statistically (QBR). Just so we can hold people accountable by seasons end, whether they be a hater, a lover or indifferent.

Mariota slander in this thread will not be tolerated!

Just curious why you chose to create these 'tiers' like this? First, his ranking means very little compared to the league. What is more important is the actual stats since that is based on how well he's doing his job. If he has a 48 QBR and several other qb's played poorly also and he ranked top 10 with below avg play, the stat is meaningless since he's not winning us games with that too often. I'd rather see a poll about where he is in qbr at the end of the season...40-49, 50-59, 60+.

Second, if you were determined to have tiers, Id use 3 tiers. Top 1-10, middle 11-21, and bottom 22-32. Top 10 played better than the others, the middle 10 are good to mediocre, and the bottom 10 need improvement or replacing. Currently, the difference between a tier 2 (at 16) compared to a tier 3 (at 17) is negligible and means nothing except for fans to argue over 'bragging' rights!

How the hell did he get 8 votes for teir 1 lol

Homer ass MoFos

Is it hard to believe that some people might think/hope that with a better run game, ol, and receivers than he's ever had...that at best he could do better than he's ever done given the better team around him? Of course it doesn't mean it will happen...but not hard to understand the rationale.

Just like the rationale of the haters is that no matter the OL, run game, or wr's improvements, Mariota will play at his worst. Doesn't make much sense...but also not impossible either.

No GM or coach will ever judge their QB by QBR, PFF QB rating, etc. The only people who use that are those who paid to have it created or are getting paid to use it.

Clearly you don't understand how negotiating works! What do you think happens? The qb asks for a gazillion dollars and the GM just says ok?

How do you think they negotiate? They use every stat and comp available to compare production/play to cost taking into consideration age, experience, production, offensive system, blah blah blah. You can better believe if dinging the QB for his qb rating or qbr saves the franchise a few mil or more, they'll do it. Both sides use EVERYTHING at their disposal!

Dont let stats fool you on evaulating a player. I'm not a big fan of Marcus (use to be), but I'd rather take him over all these overrated QBs like Foles & Goff that benefit fromthe overall talent they have around them.

Game on the line, I wouldnt choose alot of QBs before Marcus. Saying all of that, I'd be okay with moving forward with a new QB if he stinks it up this year.
