Here's the difficulty in signing a player like that so late... scheme. Zero time to learn the defense.

I mean... maybe sign and not play until Playoffs - assuming we make it - to learn how this team does it.

If CB was easy, they wouldn't be difficult to find in the NFL.

Oh yea, tell that to Tramaine Brock. He started last week after only being around 5 days.

Players are “waived” if they have fewer than four years of experience in the NFL. Those players are placed on the waiver wire and subject to claims. If they go unclaimed in 24 hours, they become unrestricted free agents free to sign anywhere (including practice squads, if eligible). In most cases, we’re talking about players drafted in the past three or four years (though there are some exceptions)

However, if a player has four or more accrued seasons in the NFL, they are not waived, they are released. That means they are immediately free agents free to sign wherever they choose. For example, Tom Savage has been in the league since 2014, so he was released on Saturday. Teams do not have put in a waiver claim for him. They can sign him immediately. These players obviously have more freedom to choose where to play next.

.

sounds to me like waivers are not an issue here

thats why I initially thought he was free to sign wherever, but every media outlet is repeating that hes subjected to waivers.

From the trading deadline through the end of the regular season, vested veterans are subject to the waiver process.

^ I guess that explains it ..

A fair point, but of all the positions on the field cornerback is probably one of the easiest to pick up scheme-wise.

We played 3 CBs last week that weren't on the team a month ago. Orr and Smith probably knew scheme from the past, but Brock was brand new.

We also do a fair amount of man blitzes after lebeau left. I wouldn't complain too much if we signed him I mean. We are a ball hair from securing a playoff spot. We're on the biggest streak since god knows tied practically for the division and 1 team behind wild card. This is what super bowl dreams are made of. Get him signed.

Let’s see how Brock and Smith do this week, if they fail, bring in Jenkins Sunday night.
