people heal differently, stupid to assume lee and simmons are the same. could go either way

Dr Bradley, who’s the Steelers team surgeon and longest tenured NFL team doctor published a study that spoke about ACL injuries and play time effect. One of the key takeaways from that study was that defensive players tend to take longer to get back to optimal snap percent(the number of plays you played vs the total number of plays you could’ve played) and the reasoning was because defensive players make reactionary movements. Offensive players generally know where they’re going and can protect themselves.

Simmons rehab and long term health is WAY more important than getting 3-4 games out of him this year.

Look what has happened to Conklin because he came back before he was ready.

The impact a rookie would make after missing all of TC and 3/4 of the season would be minimal. This is a throwaway year whether he comes back week 12 or not at all.

May as well shut him down and avoid any risk at all. Focus on rehab and mental reps. Next year we can consider him a rookie+

0 chance we are shutting this guy down, we are trying to make a playoff push this year. good to great. if he's cleared he'll play.

Not really gonna argue with a Dr. but in the case of DL I would think 1/2 their time is reactionary (run plays and few pass plays) and some are not at all (get after the QB, follow the drawn up path to do so).
I’d say the same for OL. Sometimes they dictate where they’re going and sometimes they just half to block which means the DL is dictating where they’ll go.

I like the lack of commitment either way. There is still time and his health may surprise that he can play late this year even if no more than rotational or even less, get him a little NFL experience and maybe in limited playing time he will make an impact.
If he doesn’t show signs of good health, shut him down later.
Just play it smart. Don’t play him if he’s not ready.

Based on what they have said, they aren't shutting him down this year unless he absolutely can't play.
