Brown is gone
43 Dline looks like this: Landry Jones Simmons New guy
LBs: Sam - Evans, Will -Long. MLB new guy
DBs stay the same
Easy fix
Jones is gone I think. But yeah we could easily switch. Although we won’t.

I don't think we have the players for a successful 3-4 either. The D is kind of in the middle of both and this "hybrid" is not working. Pick one and go with it personally. Can someone explain to me the desire of going to a 4-3? I'm not really opposed to it but don't think it really fits the guys we have.
That would make simmons probably a DT which means he has less opportunity to make impact plays. Jones stays on the inside with Simmons thats fine.
Landry probably plays end, this might actually be better, let him really focus on getting to the qb.
But then after that thinks get a little hairy. Jayon would be good as the inside backer I think, but he's a free agent. Evans I don't really like anywhere in a 4-3. Long could probably play inside and do alright.
I guess it doesn't sound that bad writing it out, I just don't see what it solves
Yeah I get what you're saying I agree, we have a bunch of mismatch pieces and they're not working. However I feel like our two best players on the front 7 (simmons and Landry) are probably better suited for a 3-4.I don't think we have the players for a successful 3-4 either. I don't think Simmons gets less opportunities, it may actually increase opportunities to avoid a double team. He's not a Fat Al type, but a DT can absolutely be disruptive even if the outside guys are getting the sacks.
We need a LB that can cover either way. Jayon was the "best" but he really wasn't that good at covering a RB or TE. Outside rushers needs addressed in either case as well.
I'm only for 4-3 approach because of the previous success. Tennessee has had zero since switching to 3-4 or any version of it.

Yes, that's exactly what I mean. You mean the success that we had twenty years ago and revisited in 2008 when Fat Al was the best player on the planet?
Because this board was screaming to switch from a 4/3 to 3/4 for years.
A really good DC can maximize our guys by their strengths. Bum Phillips said it best about Bear Bryant: “ He can take his’n and beat your’n and then turnaround and take your’n and beat his’n”. That’s the kind of defensive mind we need. Bowen was just not up to the job.
He actually said about both guys. Guess he ran out of cool quotes...Love that Bum quote but I think he said it about Don Shula.
A guy who can maximize results with the players he has is the key. As you said, we run multiple fronts so a lock in to any particular scheme is the wrong focus. We also need a talent upgrade. We need picks 1-3 going defense, defense, defense. It is just really strange to me that people think the success is related to a base formation that we use like 20% of the time and not talent and execution.

I think this goes with the frustrations of what front worked? It is just really strange to me that people think the success is related to a base formation that we use like 20% of the time and not talent and execution.
I think we learned the hard way. If you don't have the right guys, a 3-4 is worthless. With as much as we play 3-4 nickel minus a d lineman we may as well be a 4-3. Our ends just stand up.
