This tanking issue with the Dolphins and looks like the Browns is the real issue. Pete Rose is banned for life for betting on his own team to win.

It appears the Browns owner paid Hugh Jackson to lose (tank games). It appears Mr. Ross tried to pay Flores 100,000 a game per loss. With gambling legal now this could be FBI matter.

If nothing else this way worse than 1919 Black Sox or Pete Rose!

It could cost Ross the team

Hope he wins. Not because I agree with what he says, but seeing the NFL owners getting hit the pocket book certainly puts a little smile on my face. Also, if it finally gets Goodell out the door, I'm all for it. Not sure there has been a worse commissioner in all of sports.

It does do two things well.

It makes people listen to you even if it's sham interview. There is a chance someone gets impressed however small that might be. And that's all that matters. Not that you get hired. But that you get heard.

Second, the lower tier teams are more likely, and this will sound bad, but I think true, say to themselves we are so bad right now let's just get ahead of this diversity thing and hire a minority. It won't matter, we suck anyway, hire the woman, the african american, or the asian, or whomever. Just do it. And I think getting the job just because your a minority is ok. It's not how you got there, it's what you do with it that counts. New coaches almost always inherit bad teams so this is nothing new. Their job is to turn it around.

So, I think it does work. The concept is flawed in its presentation, No doubt. But it does what it needs to do. Everyone needs a voice and the rules give people a voice that might not otherwise have it.

Regardless, I think everyone can agree that the Giants doing a token interview with him, just to satisfy the Rooney Rule, after they had hired their guy is BS. It's not the first time it happened and was just a matter of time before someone sued.

It should cost him the team and Browns owner too!

Absolutely it's BS.

Absolutely it's BS.

Detroit was the first to get caught being shady with it when they hired Steve Mariucci. Big Dumb Matt Millen just went out and hired Mariucci and someone pointed out he needed to follow the Rooney Rule. He did a token interview over the phone FFS.

He, and his media apologists, tried to justify it saying Mariucci was special, a coaching genius, and he should not have to interview anyone else.

Here is how that went"

100%... all the while selling tickets to fans promoting the team

NFL commissioner is nothing but a mouthpiece for ownership... you can almost see their hand up rogers azz

Read The League and you will understand how little power the commissioner has. And roger has less than any of the others.

will give nfl credit for consistency though... they will roll with a commissioner for decades as long as TV $s flow... The Cash Must Flow!

only so much a coach can do with 53 wide receivers on the team

Tanking a season is some real shady stuff. There was that year the Buc tanked a game to ace us out of the first pick. That's bad, but a whole year? What is this, the NBA?

As many already know, the NFL is a relationship league, and there arent really a lot of black assistant coaches to pick from.

Thats logically the reason we see so few minority head coaches.

yeah... disagree... dont disagree that there are less percent of black coaches than players but plenty of black coaches to pick from... and its not JUST nfl... could pick any black college coach also
