With the draft behind us, and no immediate defensive line help added, it’s time to look at some other players to see who might be able to help the Titans THIS YEAR.

One name that is still available is Danny Shelton. Coming off one of his best years as a pro with the Super Bowl champ Patriots, Shelton is only 26 but has four solid years and playoff experience behind him. And now a Super Bowl ring to boot.

PFF had him as the 27th best interior defender last year, and the 3rd best Nose Tackle overall. He’d be an immediate upgrade over the largely ineffective Austin Johnson and add a stout space eater to our interior.

Playing what is primarily a two down role, Shelton could be a relatively affordable player that could have a big impact on our defense right away.

We need to get Casey some help. I have a feeling this is the year Casey starts to decline.

SImmons and Casey is a scary thought, but by time Simmons is ready, Casey will be on the downward slide.

As we see it, Johnson and Jones just don't provide any value as far as pressuring the QB. Then again, neither would Shelton.

If they feel like Shelton can still free up blockers to help Casey, then go for Shelton by any means.

Casey is already declining

I think it's due to not having any help, not due to talent. But unfortunately coming off an injury and still not having any help, I highly suspect we've seen the best of Casey.

get Casey some help until Nov Dec - which is the earliest timetable I've heard for Jeff to come back.... and thats even if that manifests

Until Casey misses a Pro Bowl, I won't say he's declining.... '15 - '18

Would be stupid to bring him back in Dec. Just let him sit and get in the groove of things from day 1. Everyone will be in playoff mode while he's still in preseason mode. Just wouldn't be good mentally for him.

Simmons ain’t coming back this year. No way would I clear him. He’s too important for the future, and if you paid attention to Conklin’s recovery, he still wasn’t ready.

Simmons base(legs) are so important and coming in fresh off an ACL with so many people down around his feet, his mind isn’t gonna be right. We need to really treat him with kid gloves, straight Redshirt year and get him to 110%. A full year of rehab and a full offseason of NFL conditioning and training and that’s when we can truly hope for the best version of our 2019 pick.

Um...so...here's the deal...

I really liked Shelton when he was coming out of college as a prospect. But...

Shelton had his WORST YEAR last year, not his best. The Pats traded a 3rd round pick for him so you know they thought they could turn him around...but...

He played in 13 games but only had 1 start. Needless to say, all of his stats were down and he was playing to earn a $7mil team option year for 2019. The Pats actually ended up benching him and he was a multi game healthy scratch late in the season. That's NOT GOOD!

Also needless to say, the Pats didn't exercise the team option so he's an UDFA.

On the upside, he's 25 and has some skills...especially for a 340lb guy. On the downside, the Pats gave up a decent pick and still ended up benching him while he was playing for a contract.

I'd offer him a vet min contract with incentives and let him compete for NT. We have some good defensive coaches so if they want to take on a reclamation project, I don't mind as long as it's for cheap and he's fighting for a roster spot. We are nickel at least 50% of the time so he wouldn't play half the time anyway. But we could use the beef and if we can get talent cheap with a chance to develop, that's always good.

I'm still on the Suh train or Wilkerson. Shelton on a vet min would be fine too...just not expected to have any impact and not even sure he'd make the team.

The team isn't gonna pre-determine that like you guys are.

It's quite simple. He'll do his rehab and when he's healthy and cleared by Doctors, he'll train and practice. When he looks good in practice (not worried about his knee or people being around him) and comfortable with the plays, they'll work him in IF the season isn't over and IF we have something to play for (chance to make the playoffs or an actual playoff run).

Well, you don't know him and can't predict when his mind is gonna be right. They'll make that decision when he is right, looks good in practice and knows the playbook. IF we have something to play for at that point, he'll get some snaps. If not, he won't. None of those decisions will be made now or in the near future unless he has a setback.

I doubt they have any intentions of playing him this year...I’d be shocked.

If he's cleared medically, looks good in practice and knows his stuff and looks better than anyone not named Casey...and we are fighting for the playoffs...I'd be shocked if we didn't play him. But a lot needs to go right for that to happen. He'd need to be cleared in time, we'd need to be playing for something, he'd have to know the playbook/defense, have to show he's in NFL shape, and show something in practice. That's a lot of if's...but definitely possible.

I take alot of stock into what is said to the prospect during the selection call.... Vrabel said 'I know that knee is gonna get better here soon' ... Now that could be a wide definition, but it kind of correlates to what was said about Adoree Jackson..

Back when everyone was scrambling the jets trying to figure out who's going to return punts for us, and JROB blatantly said in his call to AJAX, "can't wait for you to lock up these receivers and return these punts for TDs."

So there is SOME substance there.... but could also be nothing

I one too am all for redshirting him.... but it better not be for a another year of Austin Johnson... which is why some form of a NT would make tremendous sense,,,

I keep saying it but do we need a NT?

Titans dont use 3 down linemen much

According to our last few games last season, hell yes we need a NT

Lamar miller 162 yards rushing,
Isaiah Crowell 98 yards rushing,
AP old ass 119 yards rushing
Marlon Mack 119 yards rushing

If you don't think we need a force in the middle, you don't care about winning.

This is something you address during the beginning of free agency/and or draft, not at this point and time.
