I want to talk about positive stuff. Who has impressed and surprised you so far this year?

I'll start:

- AJ Brown. I wanted to draft him and loved the pick. I thought he would catch tough balls and be a red zone threat and largely be a possession receiver with a few big YAC plays. He's like a Madden character when the ball is in his hands.

- Rashaan Evans. I expected improvement, but he's been amazing. He's the best player on the defense right now. He's everywhere. He gets 8 tackles and 1 PD on Sunday and he has already surpassed every single stat from last year.

- Harold Landry. Expected him to step up his pass rushing and flirt with double digit sacks. He's on pace for 10.7 right now, so that's not a surprise. But he is all over the field. I see him containing on the run. I see him stuffing receivers in the flat. Helping stop people short of the sticks on 3rd down. He is far more well rounded than I expected.

- Isaiah Mack. UDFA. 1.5 sacks in the first 4 games. Same number of TFL's as Casey. I didn't even know he existed 3 months ago.

I'm surprised that Simmons is already practicing!
it is surprising although PK did say in the offseason he thought late october or early november. i thought he was crazy but he's about dead on it seems

Our defense as a whole has been very good. The only disappointing (though not very surprising) part is the pass rush. With a better pass rush, this defense would be elite. Simmons may help that when he gets back, we'll see.

Is the pass rush really that bad? We were 6th in sacks going into the week. Yeah, it is inconsistent and yeah we have to blitz, but that is most of the league.

I think we are so used to seeing Mary holding the ball and getting pummeled that we have unrealistic expectations.

I don't think sacks is the best indicator. How do we stack up on QB pressure and hits? I feel like there isn't a healthy average when it comes to our pass rush, its either the QB has time to eat a 4 course meal, or we get the sack.

I couldn't easily find that.

I do know that this forum tends to not like pressures without sacks. See Derrick Morgan.

Hopeful this is why the Organization didn't address the lack of Pass Rush... they were just waiting for Simmons.

Ive always known Evans would be a beast, he really showed signs of his abilities late last year.

The guy Im really impressed with has been Logan Ryan. Before the season I viewed him as our 3rd CB, but now after putting on an MVP caliber start, Im gonna say hes been the biggest surprise and most fun to watch play.

IDK what led you to "expect" 10 sacks from Landry, but Im glad to see hes on his way. He attacked this off season the right way and learned some new tricks. Glad to see it.

If this defense wants to be dominate we need our OLB's to keep stepping it up.

Getting some push up the middle from Simmons will go a long way in helping Landry too.

And to be fair, I don't think our pass rush is awful, but I do think it's the thing keeping our defense from really being scary. We start getting consistent pressure on the QB and we'll only lose games by 3-6 points most weeks...

I'm surprised Kern at this age is still punting the heck out of the ball!

Also, once they took Adoree off punt return duties, he has been playing solid covering WRs.

I totally agree.

With the way our DB's fight and as mobile as Jayon and Evans are and how everyone hustles to the ball, adding a playmaker up front would make us pretty dominant.

I mean, he had 4.5 last year and was banged up and he's taking a larger role. Doubling that doesn't seem like much of a stretch at all. And I did say "flirt with double digits".

1. Tannehills ascension
2. Finchs decline
3. The total lack of a pass rush
4. Derrick Henry’s continued emergence
5. Last week Roberson
6. This teams resilience
7. The explosive plays (man its fun)
8. AJ Browns dominance
9. Davis’s disappearance
10. Dion Lewis’s ineffectiveness
